  1. I don't hate the Phillies. And I never hated the Braves either. The Phillies fans, though, are a bunch of louts (with exceptions, of course) and I'd like to see the Phillies lose just to shut them up. (I feel the same way about the Eagles, to a greater degree.)

  4. Since I live in the Philadelphia market, my main interest in the post-season is to see the Phillies expire as soon as possible. I suspect that they'll survive the first round.
  5. Dunn is only 28? Wow. They're nuts if they don't at least talk to him.
  6. Yeah, I have to root for the Brewers to beat the Phillies. I'm not at all interested in seeing the Dodgers, Phillies, or Cubs win the pennant, so I guess I'm with the Brewers in the NL. (Just as well that I'm not going to watch the games.)

  9. Only five voters so far for Thursday night's nice win over the Cubs. (themetfairy, AG/DC, Benjamin Grimm, Elster88, Rockin' Doc) Nevertheless, voting will close on Tuesday afternoon. Those who want to vote for this game but haven't yet, please do so soon. Schaefer POTG 9/25/08 - Mets 7, Cubs 6
  10. I've always seen him as a future Met. My crystal ball has told me that he'd become a Met some time around age 38.
  11. If, over the winter, Daniel Murphy shows that he's NOT a second baseman, then he needs to be in the mix for left field. Hopefully it won't come to that.
  12. I have to say it: I covet Sabathia. I don't know if he's a realistic possibility at all, but probably the most reliable way to improve the bullpen is to get a starter who will throw a lot of innings. It's not my money, and "the brand is sound."
  13. I was at Step 5 by the time the closing ceremony started. I skipped steps 1, 2, and 3 and made a brief stop at step 4.
  14. I really liked the closing ceremonies. Nicely understated. I'd say it was just short of perfect. The only two changes I'd have made: I would have had a moment where Jerry Koosman and Jesse Orosco shook hands on the mound to commemorate those two World's Championships. And when Seaver threw the final pitch to Piazza (a GREAT idea, by the way) I would have had Keith Hernandez in the batter's box. (With the take sign, of course.) If there was a Mount Rushmore of Mets players, Tom, Mike, and Keith would be three of the heads. We still need to establish the fourth; perhaps it will be David Wright.
  15. I found myself wondering who was going to be this year's Yadier Molina. Answer: Wes Helms AND Dan Uggla. Remember that hunch I had back in June that Delgado was going to hit a homer at Yankee Stadium? I had a similar "psychic" feeling yesterday. When I saw Schoeneweis take the mound, I just "knew" that the Marlins would end up scoring the winning run that inning.
  16. I'm really enjoying the pre-game. I think I'm going to burn it to DVD. (And the post-game too, I suspect.)
  17. The word is Pedro.
  18. All due respect, but THIS is the only song that I want to hear today: Well, I'd also like to hear "Takin' Care of Business" later this afternoon.

Clearly, as we knew, yesterday was a very good day for the Mets. No need to look at NHOP's or magic numbers. We know what needs to happen.
  20. Angel Guzman (0-0, 7.04) pitching for the Cubs today against Sabathia. On paper that looks real bad for us.
  21. AG/DC wrote: Screw the division. I want the wild card. I think you mean "scew."
  22. Every game has two full "business days" elapse before it closes. A game played on Monday will close on Thursday. A Thursday game will close the following Tuesday, Wednesday if Monday is a holiday.
  23. All of the games vs. the Marlins will be open until Wednesday. Thursday night's game will close on Tuesday.
