  1. Don't sweat it. I'm sure I've overlooked a lot of white Mets in my time.
  2. I agree. Kranepool, Grote, Jones, Koosman, Shamsky.
  3. I think it may be time to flip the cards.
  4. This is a test.
  5. So I wasn't TOO far off when I guessed Bob Hope.
  6. This is the Nightcrawler thread that I remember best: http://archives.cranepoolforum.net/2300/f1_t2382.shtml
  7. See "Bitch to the Admins." I hope to get it fixed tomorrow. Meanwhile, I had forgotten that Valadius was using "Creator of Nightcrawler and the Jake Monster" as his automatic signature line. Sheesh.
  8. How were you able to find that during a time when the archives index is busted? I'm rather impressed.
  9. I don't mind that SNY has some dumb shoutfests on its schedule, but I think it would be a good idea for them to have some smart shows as well. (Maybe they do, but if so they don't advertise them during Mets games.) I'm thinking of a Bob Costas/Bryant Gumbel kind of show where you have a reporter covering some topic of interest to the New York sports scene with insight and depth. But instead it's a lot of Loudmouths and Wheelhouse and Beer Money.
  10. That one still has a chance to redeem itself, I suppose, but it's hard to argue that it was a deal worth making.
  11. I don't imagine that most fans will want to be "immersed in a Mets and Pepsi experience" while at the ballgame. I know I wouldn't. I just want to watch the game, without any immersion at all.
  12. Did Billy Joel sing the WKRP theme? I find myself selfishly hoping for a Monday rainout, because if it's played on Tuesday afternoon instead I'll be able to watch.
  13. BAMF!
  14. Nicknames are better if they just come up spontaneously. They shouldn't be determined by committee.
  15. ="MFS62":1cvhnflm]Sooo, what would you nickname him? [/quote:1cvhnflm] We need somebody to outline a proper nickname methodology. Anyway, he's not "Irish." He's from Florida. metirish Mar 30 2009 08:44 AM How about no nickname for him , I just couldn't see myself typing out" The Irish Hammer" or whatever the Florida equivalent would be . soupcan Mar 30 2009 08:46 AM How about 'Dan'? Benjamin Grimm Mar 30 2009 08:52 AM Nicknames are better if they just come up spontaneously. Benjamin Grimm Mar 30 2009 08:57 AM BAMF! seawolf17 Mar 30 2009 08:57 AM Ha! Get me Valadius on line one. ="soupcan":3gjwn732]How about 'Dan'?[/quote:3gjwn732] I thought I read somewhere last year he doesn't like "Dan," which is why he goes by "Daniel." Centerfield Mar 30 2009 09:01 AM I vote for "Black Mamba". SteveJRogers Mar 30 2009 10:28 AM ="seawolf17":3dbbq9qq]How about Nightcrawler?[/quote:3dbbq9qq] HA! Along the same vein, there is a guy on a NYC sports talk show that is pushing a nickname on Murphy that was the name of some piece of equipment used by firefighters. I don't remember what it was, but he was saying that it is a versatile piece of equipment, the way Murphy is a versatile player. And it ties into the NYFD's Irish heritage. Heh, sadly it falls into the "its not good if you need to explain it in more than 5 words" category. Not bad. Howzabout "Hacksaw"-- he's a bit of more of a wood-chopper than a "hammer", offensively speaking. OlerudOwned Mar 30 2009 11:40 AM ="metirish":2bai1n7j]Yeah it's a very British/Irish soccer style thing too....every player gets a O or a SY added to their name....[/quote:2bai1n7j] It's huge in hockey, too. I could practically go down the whole Rangers roster like that. Bettsy, Orrsy, Korps, Staalsy, Gomer, Cally, Nazzy. It's a shame that nobody on the team actually uses Lauri Korpikoski's fan-adaopted nickname, Korpedo. Edgy DC Mar 30 2009 11:55 AM The News still hasn't cleared up the error. That guy is just poisonous to clubhouses. soupcan Mar 30 2009 12:41 PM The Nightcrawler & Black Mamba references have gone completely over my head. metirish Mar 30 2009 12:44 PM Nightcrawler brings back fun memories, Val at his best I think. I would hope the archives have that old nicknames thread. Centerfield Mar 30 2009 12:49 PM Black Mamba was the nickname given to himself by Kobe Bryant. Say what you want about other nicknames, the height of douchebaggery is trying to give yourself a cool sounding nickname and being the only one to use it. Not everyone would share like that. Someone should tell the Seattle fans who Mr. Cellophane is.
  16. That's all fine, but the real "firsts," as far as I'm concerned, will be on April 13.
  17. I'm no fan of ads, but I kinda like that big Pepsi Cola sign. It's as much "advertising art" as it is advertising. Isn't it very similar to the vintage sign in Queens that can be seen from across the East River in Manhattan?
  18. I don't think I've ever seen that 1991 revised edition cover. Ever.
  19. I vote we call him "Frankie."
  20. Are you implying that the "trainer" was a "boyfriend?" Time for another press conference!
  21. I Googled "things Roy McMillan did twice." He was named to the NL All-Star team twice. He wouldn't think twice about shooting Booker. He watched Oden work out twice in the summer. He descended a waterfall twice as high as Niagara. Twice a week he sits in a lawn chair while the clinic gets calls from women.
  22. If mainstream media really is dead, as many claim, it's because they employ too many idiots.
