  1. Yeah, don't be discouraged if there's a little bounceback. You'll probably hit your low at some point, but within a couple of years you might gain back ten pounds or so. (At least, that's how it went for me.) If you can stabilize your weight at about ten pounds above your low, I'd call that a tremendous success. It wasn't until years after that that I let complacency (and a fondness for ice cream) set in, and everything started to come undone. The biggest mistake I made was that I stopped stepping on the scale. It's the best way to be aware of a bad trend and to cut it off before it gets out of hand. When I stepped on the scale over the holidays (probably the worst time to do that!) it had been the first time in a long time and I realized I had work to do.
  2. I suppose they need to get the surrounding area to be at least as nice as the area adjacent to Citi Field.
  3. Edgy DC wrote: I guess I'm slipping but I don't remember Meathead sharing Archie's interest in the Mets. I remember Methead liking them, but not Meathead. Early on, there was a flashback episode showing the day that Gloria introduced Mike to Archie. She said, "Daddy, you and Michael both like the Mets." And Meathead said something about Seaver and Koosman. I don't remember exactly how it went.
  4. So were Archie Bunker and Meathead. The Mets were one of the very few things they could agree on.
  5. She's also showing off too much of her ribcage.
  6. When I think of Ang Lee, I can only think of him as the guy who tried to ruin the Hulk.
  7. I just realized that I don't know what the guy looks like, so I went looking for an image. For anyone else similarly curious, here he is. Are we sure he's Ron Davis' kid and not Steve Garvey's?
  8. It may or may not make sense for Mejia to start in the pen, but it's a lot more fun if he bursts on to the scene as a starter, like Doc Gooden did in 1984. (I'm not saying Mejia is another Gooden... I'm just hoping he is!)
  9. Well, they haven't promoted a whole lot of quality players either, so it may just mean that they haven't had any good players to trade. Which would not be a sign that the front office is doing a good job.
  10. I think this is the first time I've ever seen anyone decline an invitation to a train wreck.
  11. Steve's becoming a salamander.
  12. How has Carlos Gomez been doing? And is Kevin Mulvey still considered a prospect? If I recall, I think the Twins cut Philip Humber loose.
  13. I thought he was using a garden trellis.
  14. No, that's not how it works. Every time the Mets pick up a spare part, we're supposed to react as if they're endorsing the guy as the greatest player ever, and then berate them for being so stupid as to think that.
  15. Mays should have no say in the matter. Where has he been since 1979? Willie Mays is one of my all-time favorite players, but he's not a Met. He's a Giant. I'd give number 24 to the next scrub that comes along. And then the next scrub after that.
  16. Oops, here's this from Brian Costa of the Star Ledger: A Mets spokesman said the area of the wall being lowered spans only the width of the Apple, where the height of the wall briefly went from 10 feet, 10 inches to 16 feet last season. And the park's spacious dimensions will remain unchanged. So maybe in that photo, the top of the tab is only 10'10". I wonder, though, how the wall briefly became 16 feet tall. Does anyone remember that? I have no recollection of that at all. Maybe it happened during the two weeks I was out of the country?
  17. Bradley Whitford's West Wing character, Josh Lyman, was a Mets fan. I remember one episode where he was eager to sit down and watch Mike Piazza and the Mets. I don't know if Whitford is on the list because of that line in the episode, or if the line was in the episode because the actor was a Mets fan. A few people on that list are dead at the present time, including Richard Nixon, who's been dead for almost 16 years. If they're including the deceased, how could they forget Pearl Bailey? And weren't Jackie Onassis and JFK Jr. Mets fans for a while there?
  18. The article says that the height is going to be reduced from 16 feet to 8 feet. I assume that the top of the tab is the 16-foot mark. The bottom of the tab is more than halfway up that section of the wall; simply removing the tab wouldn't bring the fence to 8 feet; it would probably be more like 11 or 12 feet. The 8-foot mark appears to be the seam, as a few of us have stated above. Therefore, if they're reducing the wall to 8 feet, then it will be quite a long stretch of fence that will be lowered. In the overhead shot that soupcan posted earlier, we see the higher fence extending into right field up until the blue advertising sign. I don't remember what the left-field side of the apple looked like; I think that's where we see the gradual slope of the top of the wall. Maybe they'll be removing that as well.
  19. I like 43 for Fogg and 2 for Catalonotto. I'd prefer to see Chris Carter in a 10 or a 30, perhaps. Ike Davis can keep his 78 for now, but ultimately I'd like to get him in a number below 20.
