This wasn't a great team when at least some subset of Bruce, Cespedes, Conforto, Duda, and Granderson were on the active roster. With all five of them gone for the season, it's going to be a long slog through September. I'm thinking of it as early spring training for 2018.

One thing I'm realizing is we simply have to adjust our expectations with these SHaMmiest of SHaMs. I mean, they suck. Unable to win a series, prone to slumps and dumb plays etc etc etc. I mean the Reds fucked us up the butt in this series.

When you lose and/or give up 3/4 of your offense -- as Granderson, Walker, Bruce, Duda, Cespedes, and Conforto essentially all disappeared during a two week window -- it's tough to expect good things.
This is now a team which has topped four runs just once in the last 12 games and the note above about it being the first series without hitting a HR is stunning considering who and where they were just playing.

This was the first series all year in which the Mets played consecutive games in less than 2:45, perhaps reflecting an accelerated desire by both teams to get the season over with.
