Bad things to happen to the 2017 Mets. The list goes well past 10. This may be among the more tragic teams they've fielded without, you know, a tragedy.

In no particular order:

[list:3megistc]David Wright showing up, DHing a few games, works out on defense, gets a new diagnosis, disappears into a black hole.

Matt Harvey gets wasted, goes golfing, fails to show up for work, gets suspended, gets embarrassed publicly for his declining career leading to declining romantic prospects.

Mr. Met goes blue, gets photographed.

Jeurys Familia arrested for domestic assault and suspended.

Two top prospects excel at AAA, don’t get called up, leading to a minor fan rebellion.

Neil Walker gets a qualifying offer, fails to get with the program and reject it, instead acceptis it, forcing the Mets to carry him for another year at an expensive rate, compromising their free-agent options, and then goes and gets hurt as the trade deadline approaches.

Despite the disabled list being shortened to 10 days, the Mets at least three times haw over putting an injured player on it, carrying him for several days, and then end up bringing him back prematurely, before putting the guy on the list anyway, at least once after re-aggravating the injury and making it worse.

That “at least once” was their highest-paid player, who ended up pulling a hammy when he shouldn’t have been playing, enduring a long trip to the DL and still not being 100% when he re-appeared.

Losing Travis d’Arnaud to a stupid injury when the batter stepped into his path, seemingly deliberately, as our catcher threw. His hand gets hit with the bat and Terry didn’t argue for his player. d’Arnaud’s setbacks mount.

Syndergaard asserting his independence all Harvey-like by refusing a medical exam, and then getting hurt in his next start. Still out.

Jacob deGrom suffering through two consecutive starts where he couldn’t get anything past anybody, and seemingly being reduced to tears in the dugout.

Steven Matz coming up injured out of Spring Training.

Juan Lagares injures thumb, being lost in the same black hole.

Matt Harvey’s abortive recovery from Thoracic Outlet Syndrome surgery.

Adam Wilk being called up for an emergency start because of Harvey’s tomfoolery, getting off the plane, getting pounded, then getting claimed as the team tried to pass him through waivers, which combined with the Mets injuries to help leave the 51s rotation comically overmatched through much of the summer.

The horrific starts of Reyes and Granderson.

The defense. OH THE DEFENSE![/list:u:3megistc]

In addition to giving new meaning to the term "sophomore slump" incompetent defense from Gsellman knocks out Duda for weeks.

Lightning in a bottle is one thing, but Gsellman and Lugo weren't ready for the high stakes grind of summer in New York. Or something.

Then there was that game in Pittsburgh when the home team superimposed images on the center field wall to distract Harvey.

Michael Conforto, All Star and the team's best offensive player this year, has inexplicably spent way too much time as a 4th outfielder.

New third base coach Glenn Sherlock seems to have sent too many runners rounding third towards their death at home (sorry if my memory is unfairly slamming you, Glenn).

Robles and Salas turning into completely unreliable turds.

Well, Walker could be back by Monday, so maybe he can get some action in before the trade deadline after all.

Of course, that might mean they have an increased motivation to deal off Cabrera.

in re: health and body? The employee, though too often it's the other way around.

I forgot to include The Cabrera Rebellion.

Reliable vet returns from injury, asked to switch to position he's played plenty of before, turns all diva and demands a trade.

Actually, I had your back in this one. Not long after you made the post.

I was going to mention Lagares, who has been all but forgotten, but you were all over that. It looked like he was on his way to working his way back to becoming a starting CF.

I'm not too disappointed about Conforto's lack of reps. The Mets have three good corner outfielders, and only two can play at any one time. I'm all for showcasing Bruce, and Cespedes isn't going to sit when he's healthy.

A big disappointment to me so far is the dog that didn't bark. Usually, even during a weak season, there's some nice surprise. An R.A. Dickey gets pulled off the scrap heap. A Matt Harvey comes in and becomes the best pitcher in baseball for a couple of months. Wright or Reyes come up and show their star potential. Karma throws us a bone.

That hasn't happened this year. The biggest "surprise" is TJ Rivera becoming a slightly better than league average hitter. Yeah, great. "I think TJ Rivera is going to be a decent bat off the bench for the next couple of years" isn't exactly something to dream on. I would have liked to have seen Td'A have that breakout season we've been expecting for years. Or Montero proving that he's more than just the guy you stick in the rotation after you've blown through Plans A, B, C, D, and XYZ.

Maybe Rosario comes up in August and lives up to his billing. That would be nice.

Oh, yeah...and then there's the reason why Conforto is a center fielder instead of a corner outfielder for now. Nimmo and his collapsed lung.

Let's not forget, Lugo going so balls out at the WBC that he ended up getting hurt and missing two months to start the year.
