Several of them managed the Mets, and one of them won a Championship.
But the worst?
And, a Dick Stuart Phillies card in his Pirates uni? Funny.

Dallas Green probably qualifies, depending on how much you blame his "pitch until your arm falls off" mentality hurt his crop of Met future aces.

Buddy?

Buddy didn't have a hand of literally systematically ruining an entire generation of highly touted Met pitching prospects.

Unless this is a trick question, I would have voted "Dallas Green" too.

Oh, c'mon peoples. This isn't even remotely debatable among the candidates in this thread.

I was going to say Larry Bowa but he never managed them right?

True no one is looking at Collins for the years of missed time between Matz, Wheeler and Harvey, but there are plenty of places that put part of the blame for Wilson and Pulsipher washing out, and Isringhausen having to be reinvented as a closer on Green's over working them at the big league level. Even Green himself had admitted mistakes in over reliance on the old school "can never throw enough" mindset.

Batmags thinks Willie Randolph is the worst mgr in Mets history IIRC, but I'm not making a connection to the thread.

What are you doing posting at 11:07PM? Weren't you watching Better Call Saul?

FYI -- I'd rank the Mets worst managers as Dallas (worst) and Willie (next worst). You know how much I hated Willie because of this forum, whereas there wasn't even an internet, let alone the CPF during Dallas's reign of terror and general arm shredding. But the loathe factor was especially high for Willie given how good a team he inherited and had to work with. Hey! That's a discussion for another thread: Which Mets manager inherited the best squad to begin his tenure? I suppose it's either Davey or Willie.

I was thinking maybe Art Howe, but you might be right with Torborg.

One of my prouder moments as a fan was being the first among the attendance on a Saturday afternoon in May of 1993 to start booing the face of Jeff Torborg as it appeared on DiamondVision plugging the optical firm he was paid to endorse. The boos were picked up from there and they became the predominant reaction. A couple of weeks later, he was gone.

You're welcome.

Torborg was the worst. Green, by dint of not being Torborg, can't rank any lower than next-to-last.

Seminal internet activity existed within the grasp of the general public between May of 1993 and August of 1996. Dallas Green was the manager of record when I first stumbled into electronic baseball communications in April of 1994. I used it initially to promote the cause of Josias Manzanillo for closer. But did Dallas listen?

Memories of Jeff Torborg

"Bonbolito" stakes an earlier claim than G-Fafif to the concept of booing Torborg on the DiamondVision.

I like this line from Larry Burns: "I would not hire him to manage an Arby's unless I wanted it to go out of business with as much acrimony and bitterness as humanly possible."

Just to piggyback, MetsOnline literally was created due to Bryan Hoch's desire for an online outlet to discuss the potential of the Big Three of GenK. And the site, forum, etc was launched during Green's wanning days.
