Some things are similar: Pink for Mother's Day, light blue for Father's Day

Some things are slightly different: Dark green camo this year for Memorial Day, a variation of stars and stripes for Independence Day.

The All-Star batting practice jerseys are kinda cool. The caps are ... better than last year. But the underside of the brims are funky.

Socks are apparently a big thing now.

Everything will now be worn all weekend, not just on the holiday.

This pains me as a, well, anti-Miamian in virtually all respects, but I kinda like the ASG uni set, save the mismatched sock thing.

Better yet, New Era is selling new/current hats in stretch and adjustable sizes, which is great, because I'm stuck between two fitted hat sizes and they never fit me correctly.

Don't give in to Big Apparel. They uglied up the hats with their stupid logo now they try to make up for it with alternative takes. I'm telling you. The next Mets hat that's not given to me I'm gonna make myself. I'm gonna be a haberdasher.

Oh, I'm just noting the unis. I'm not buying those, or a hat, or a jersey or shirsey or shinguards or dickey (possible exception: babygear for new nephew) anytime soon. I like orange in my casualwear anyway, so I tend toward just wearing the colors-- blue collared shirt/orange hoody, or orange-and-blue pattern tee with blue heather cardigan, e.g.-- like in the days before licensed apparel. Looks tidy, travels from pregame plans/to postgame plans with more dignity and aplomb, and I put less money in the Big Apparel coffers.

I go the other way and buy the smaller size. It then takes about two weeks of break-in where the cap is almost unbearably uncomfortable. But after a couple good sweats and/or some rainy dog walks, it fits like a glove - but on your head!

The stretchy hats always look weird on me. They give me a cone head look.

I kind of like this idea of the patch with the number of years a player has been selected for the All-Star Game for the game jersey. (Not sure about the plastic material of the patch...)

Trying to guess who among this year's likely selectees would have the highest number on the patch? Miguel Cabrera? Albert Pujols?

Ah! I forgot all about Ichiro and Beltran! Would be stunned if Ichiro made it in is current, part-time role unless he announces he'll be retiring at the end of the season or something.
