1998: 8 for 30. June pickup for the pennant drive who never quite did what we hoped.
2010: 6 for 30. Utility guy who's already been a wrong guess.

Three pitchers and an outfielder today.

1. 1965: 3-29. Big dude who was involved in the Mets "first no-hitter."

Edgy picks up one, Greg picks up two, and our mystery MetYank is still on the board. (Reniff will show up again in a few weeks.)

Traveled down the road (from Pittsburgh) and back again. Figured the Pirates was too easy of a hint, so I didn't use it. Well done.

Don't go up against Greg in Obscure Mets Jeopardy, by the way.

The points will start to pick up, folks, so get your guessing hats on. Don't let Greg run away with this. We've got three 28s, five 27s, and four 26s... and then it starts to blast wide open, with NINE points available each day Thursday and Friday.

1. 14th on the all-time Mets games pitched list, but only 2-28 at the plate from 1967-1971.
2. 5-24 in 1977, 0-4 in 1980... the entirety of this C/1B's major league career.
3. 4-28 in 2014. Drafted in the 3rd round by the Rangers but only got 500 MLB at-bats.

We're less than four weeks from opening day. FOUR WEEKS! So tell me about these fellas, won't you?

1. 1984: Must have been those eleven hits in 27 AB that made him part of that big trade.
2. 1999-2001: Came in like gangbusters, hitting 25 HR in AA/AAA in 1999, but that never translated to big-league success, finishing just 7-27 with 0 HR, all with the Mets.
3. 2007: 5-27 in a short stint as a backup outfielder. Was a reasonably highly regarded prospect who never amounted to much success either.
4. 2011: Won a ROY, was part of a huge three-team deal, then finished his career quietly going 4-27 as a Met.
5. 2015: 4-27 as a backup infielder; now in camp with the Tigers.

1, Herm Winningham

Yes, that's it. I had guessed Stan Jefferson, but the name I was trying to think of was Herm Winningham. I conflated the two, thinking that Jefferson went to Montreal in the Carter trade (maybe because of the presidential names) but Jefferson, I think, went to San Diego. For McReynolds?
