Time for some 38s. Three today, and I'm making them REALLY FUCKING HARD.

1. Lost seventeen games as a swingman in 1962, and never really made much major league impact after that.
2. I came to the Mets in a trade that brought a key piece of a World Series championship team, then started 19 games the following season, then was traded and only pitched one more season.
3. I was a way more effective reliever than most Mets fans will admit, saving 33 games in parts of six seasons.

Five players with 37 Mets ABs for your consideration:

1. I came to the Mets in the summer of '65 in exchange for Frank Lary, caught in 21 games and was terrible, and then was traded that offseason for Dick Stuart.
2. I got 37 AB in 1991 as a backup middle infielder, then 19 AB for the Padres in '92, and somehow became the starter in '93, playing 140 games. I got 32 AB with the Expos in 1994 but never made it back to the bigs.
3. Went 4-10, 4.55 as a Met in 1994. Best remembered as a Brave.
4. Went 6-10, 4.94 as a Met in 2002. Best remembered as a Brewer.
5. Got 37 AB as a Rule V pick in 2011 but was gone by April 17.

BUT OH MY GOODNESS WE'VE SPILLED INTO A SECOND DAY.

Two players earned exactly 36 AB as Mets. Both spent the bulk of their careers in the upper midwest; one a pitcher with the Tigers from 1954-1964, one an outfielder with the Cubs from 1993-1995. The pitcher came to the Mets in May 1964, then was traded to the Milwaukee during the season, then purchased back in the offseason, then traded AGAIN, this time to the White Sox, in 1965, in exchange for another guy who didn't get very many Mets AB. The outfielder batted cleanup in a late April game in Pittsburgh and hit a game-winning 3-run HR in the top of the ninth.

1 is Frank "The Yankee Killer" Lary

I had written "traded for Jimmie Schaffer" in the clue, but figured that'd be quite a giveaway because that information was still in the post from yesterday. Buford is incorrect.

The 37 AB guy is Jeff Gardner, whose total times to the plate overstates the impression he made on me.

THe 36 AB guy is Kevin Roberson, whose maternity ward clerk got bored typing Robertson, I always assumed.

HERE WE GO! Three players with exactly 35 Mets AB, as we ramp up the difficulty for real:

1. Had 1872 AB in 21 seasons -- 1816 of them before being acquired by the Mets.
2. Outfielder acquired by the Mets from Arizona in June 2008; was gone at the end of the season and never made it back to the majors.
3. Hit one of the most memorable home runs in Mets history, although he might be best known for something he DIDN'T hit.

Ben Grimm gets the clue on the first one, which I hoped would confuse people. Well done, and we get a little movement in the standings.

1. Had 1872 AB in 21 seasons -- 1816 of them before being acquired by the Mets. WARREN SPAHN
2. Outfielder acquired by the Mets from Arizona in June 2008; was gone at the end of the season and never made it back to the majors. TROT NIXON
3. Hit one of the most memorable home runs in Mets history, although he might be best known for something he DIDN'T hit. SHAWN ESTES

Hey! Just realized I forgot to keep putting photos in here. Oops. Here you go:

1. 34 AB as a first baseman in 2004, 4 AB for the Royals in 2007... and that's it.
2. Drafted by the Mets in 1995, but didn't get into a game as a Met until pitching the 7th inning in a blowout win over Arizona in April 2008. Got his 34 AB, though, and is still associated with the organization, of sorts.
3. Was awful, then a key piece of the staff, then quickly became one of the most despised Mets of all time. Got a single off Roy Halladay in his third major league AB, then went 0-for-31. Still associated with the organization, of sorts.

2, The Z Man, Alan Zinter.

Edit: no, that's not right, I'm confusing my Mets-Diamondbacks family tree.

2. Nelson Figueroa

(BTW: Mets and Arizona didn't play in April 2008.)
