It feels like the Yankees and Red Sox play each other sixty times a year.

Ten more times this season (this weekend plus seven more) all between now and Sept 3rd
Whether either of the two remaining series -- 3 at Boston next weekend then 4 in NY starting 8/31 -- will be meaningful might depend on the outcome of this one, although I'm sure
the Sox would relish delivering the blows to help keep the Yanx out of the WC even if the division seems no longer in play.

Sox pen giving up the lead at the same time as the Mets pen.
Boston had a 3-0 lead on a 2-hitter heading into the 8th. Now game tied, 2 on, and still no one out.

Three WS titles later and I still have no faith in the Sawx not to blow games like this.

45 fucking minutes later and the bottom 8th is finally over. 5-3 Yanx heading to the 9th
Good thing Farrell has Kimbrel saved for the ni .... oh wait, that inning's not going to come up now that you couldn't hold the lead.

oe: and it was Addison Reed who was in the midst of all that ugliness: HBP, HR, 1B, WP, BB, ... then he was yanked but three straight singles after that allowed all his runners to score

BoSox (barely) keep the world safe for democracy by beating the Yanx 2 of 3 over the weekend.
Looked like they were about to lose this one when 12 y/o (OK he's 20) Rafael Devers took Chapman deep w/1 out and 2 strikes in top 9 to tie the score. First HR by a LHB off Aroldis since 2011
Sawx then won it in the 10th, but maybe the best thing about the whole deal was that the Yanx went through the entire slate of their 'A' bullpen trying to steal this one in advance of our series:
Robertson (23 pitches); Betances (12); Chapman (26); Kahnle (18)

Would have been nice of course had the Sox not shit the bed on Friday and swept their asses outta there.
But on the other hand I was afraid there for a while that they were going to lose the game they led 3-0 in the 8th (Friday) [u:2stcei4n]AND[/u:2stcei4n] lose their Chris Sale game (Sunday) too.

Stop what you are doing and watch this video. And then watch it again:
One out, top of the ninth, MFYs up by one.

There was actually only one out in the 9th, but still just as good.

It's like the guy in the video never considered that such a turn-around was even permitted to happen in the Bronx: "Wait, they're allowed to do that?!?"

It was his punishment for wearing a flat brimmed MFY HAT. (It isn't a baseball cap unless the brim is curled).

The Yankees may still have a loaded farm system, but they're going to have to contend with Rafael Devers for a very long time.

Some people will post anything to get hits/attention.

I don't know. Something off about that video. A real fan (1) probably isn't taking a selfie video there, and (2) lets the camera drop as soon as that ball takes flight.

Yeah, had similar thoughts ...anyway, I tuned in in time to see Chapman give up the HR, get booed of the mound. I liked it

After our recent four game debacle, I feel so cheap rooting for the Sox to do what we couldn't ... but not so cheap that I'm going to stop.

Sox jumped out to a 3-0 lead -- Yanx came back with six unanswered -- Sox just put up a four-spot to take a 7-6
The game is now at the 3-3/4 hour mark and they just finished the 7th inning. Lots of factors but I think the MFY catcher had 17 meetings at the mound in the 7th inning (could be off by a few).
Our game may wind up finishing first despite the two hour rain delay even though this one isn't breaking any speed records either.

9-6 Boston is your final ... and in a tidy little 4:09
Good thing it was in Fenway and therefore only 8-1/2 innings, otherwise it might have run long.

Brawl at MFY-Tigers game.

And as the game restarts the Yanx score 3 to tie it - would have been more but Upton robbed Hicks of a 3R HR.
Then in the bottom 7 Bettances beans a Tiger in the head and gets tossed, and now Robertson hits another!! (in the hand)

Cabrera & Romine and MFY reliever Kahn who threw behind Miggy were tossed in the first scrap. Girardi AND bench coach Thompson have been tossed (I think Horace Clark is running the team now).
Now Bettances has been tossed and the Yanx have lost the DH because DH Sanchez had to replace Romine.

And now the Tigers get a bases-clearing 2B so all the guys who got beaned just scored.
9-6, bottom 7, and this game probably still has another 2 hours to go. It's already at 3-1/2

Todd Frazier beaned, still happening

There has to be some suspensions coming. The Tigers have long been out of it, so no real harm to them. But the Yankees still think they have a chance, so they've hurt themselves here.

Well, the Tigers and Yankees try to intimidate one another by engaging in a game of dodge ball (baseball style).

Throwing inside is part of the game. I'm not a fan of throwing at batters, but if a pitcher is going to do so, they have to hit the batter in the hip or ass. The Tigers did that twice. The Yankees threw behind Cabrera (just missing his ass), but then Dellin Betances hit Tiger James McCann in the head, which is an entirely different matter and a much more egregious offense in my view. Pitchers should receive much larger fines and longer suspensions for hitting a batter in the head or shoulder region.

Of course, I expect the Yankees will view the Betances beaning of McCann as being no different than Frazier or Sanchez being hit in the hip.

Maybe worse than Betances -- and quite possibly deserving of a longer suspension -- was C/DH Gary Sanchez sucker punching at least two different Tigers while they were pinned-down on the bottom of
various piles during the fracas. Both were caught quite clearly on camera.

Agreed.

If someone intentionally hits someone in the head -- not the ribs, or the thigh or the back -- but the head, they should be staring down a very long suspension. You are not just settling a score, you are messing with someone's long-term health and career.

And a reliever in the American League will likely never stand in the batter's box, so he's setting up one of his teammates to get drilled.

Zack Littell, the prospect the Yankees gave up in the Jaime Garcia deal has gone 3-0 at AA Chattanooga since joining the Twins organization, upping his record to an eye-popping 17-1 on the year.

And the Yanx just lost to Seattle (one of the WC chasers) in the 11th on another HR off Chapman by a LHB (Yonder Alonso)

Prior to this month Chapman had given up ONE HR to a lefty hitter in his ML career.
He now has served up four, one five years ago and three in the last two weeks.

CC Sabathia apparently thinks it's dirty pool if you bunt while he's on the mound. You'd think it was because he's old and fat and has bad knees but he claims not to have liked it when he was young either.
Suck it up fat boy, you fielded that 1st inning bunt fine, it's not the Sox fault that you then threw it away.

Yanx won the first of four last night in a series where Boston can bury them once and for all. But the Sox only got 4 hits and made numerous outs on the base paths and left a ton of runners on.
Betances served up two walks plus 2 HBPs in the 9th inning alone.

Naturally the game took 3:44 despite being only 6-2 and only 8-1/2 innings. Gary Sanchez must have made 75 trips to the mound. I'd love to see a limit next year if only to further expose
his cluelessness.

OK CC, then tell your defense not to shift, ever.

Tell Ellsbury not to deliberately swing real late to get on through catchers interference.

Tell your guys not to take extra bases on weak-armed outfielders.

Etc, etc.

The thing is, I miss bunting. I miss hitting-and-running. I used to love radical defensive configurations, but when I realized that most of the league (and most all of the Mets) weren't going to counter them with situational hitting and bunting, I grew to hate them.

Can't remember the last hit and run I saw, let alone the last squeeze. This gentleman's agreement crap has got to stop.
