I have no idea what his trade value might be, but you would have to think a SS that hits 20+ home runs would have some value no? Reasons to consider it:

1. Likely to regress in 2017
2. Gets injured a lot
3. If he regresses, some other internal options might work. Reyes, Flores, and to a lesser extent, Cecchini and Reynolds. Plus in the second half Rosario might be ready.

If he has no trade value, you keep him. But if someone is willing to spare a catcher or a centerfielder...

I guess you trade him if the right deal comes along, because the Mets do have depth at that position. (I'm thinking Reyes and Flores and, I suppose Reynolds. I'm pretty sure the Mets don't want to promote Rosario until around May 1, 2018.)

But I want him to stick around.

Yes I would consider that. I think the Mets would too.

sure, for the right deal.

of course, Reyes gets hurt a lot too, Flores can't really play the position well though it makes his bat appear better to play there. (I know we're punting defense mostly but that's probably unwise)

It's certainly an area that you probably don't have _too_ much of a drop off if you can get real value for in trade.

I'd have to assume there's a limited market for him though, the teams that want a solid SS are the contending type ones, in sort of a swap of positions. Seems like a lot of the Mets targets want more prospects back for the established hitters.

And I think 2017 is too important to risk trading him for prospect(s).

Reyes gets hurt, and isnt the player he used to be, and hits women. lets not count on that.

I love Flores but he is a butcher at SS and might be our primary 3B option given Wright's uncertain health.

Reynolds is a AAAA/bench guy, not a reason or excuse to trade a starter.

Cechinni? maybe but i wouldnt trade Cabrera just to hope he turns into something

You don't trade Cabrera to hope Gavin turns into something. Obviously he is valuable to us, and so might be valuable to others. If you can get a good piece you have to consider it.

None of the other options are as strong as Cabrera, but it's at a position where we have the greatest chances of someone clicking. Just food for thought.

I'd talk to anybody about anybody, but I'd be surprised if somebody offered us something for Cabrera that would make this year's team better.

If you want to know how really important he is to the Mets, try to find the recent Mets Hots Stove Report Show on SNY.
He is VERY important, both on the field and as a clubhouse leader.
Based on the discussion on that show, I wouldn't look to trade him.

Guys that take other guys helmets off after home runs don't grow on trees.

Lol. I tend to agree with Ceet. He has the intangibles that New York short stops have become known for.
Yep, I went there.

I say just let the shortstop situation play itself out if Cabby is still with us come spring. If he's not it better be for a piece that REALLY matters.
