RH Rafael Montero (0-0, 3.68 ERA) vs. LH Brandon Finnegan (8-10, 4.19)

Finnegan doesn't really suck that much. Gives up too many HRs and walks but his last 3 outings have been great:

7 IP, 0 ER, 7 Ks vs. LAD
6 IP, 2 ER, 12 Ks vs. AZD
7 IP, 2 ER, 9 Ks vs. LAA

There once was a Red named Brandon Finnegan
He'd take some lumps upon his chinnigan
He'd sometimes lose but then he'd win again
Let's beat Brandon Finnegan

Oh he'd get drunk on bathtub gin again
And then he'd trash the motor inn again
Yeah, he'd repent, but then he'd sin again
Let's beat Brandon Finnegan

But Bryan Price loved Brandon Finnegan
He'd bench his ass, but then put him in again
Oh, win ye Mets! Search deep within again
Let's beat Brandon Finnegan

I worry about Montero in this small ball park. I wonder if it'll make him want to nibble even more, and increase his walk total.

Let's score 23 runs just to be safe.

Finnegan, you may recall, was the guy who went from the College World Series (TCU), to a 1st round pick in the draft (17th overall by KC), to the majors (debut two years ago today), and to the ML World Series
all in a five month span back in 2014.

The Royals then dealt him to Cincy at the 2015 deadline as part of the package for Johnny Cueto.

He's probably been Cincy's best starter this season and certainly their best over this 2nd half of the year during which the Reds as a whole have been an over-.500 club (25-22)

I agree. The replace-Mets pitchers have been great, but I feel like this team needs to lean on the offense down the stretch so that the margins aren't as thin for the young pitchers.

23 runs would be awesome, but I'd be cool with 15.

Eh. I wanted to see Cecchini to get a start. We know Reynolds is just a guy who gets into one every now and then.

Interesting. I thought his policy was to rest the guy with the hot bat. (Or maybe that only applies to guys named "Wilmer Flores.")

Well, Finnegan is a lefty which makes today 'All LHBs grab some pine Tuesday' - except of course in the OF where the choices are like nine different LH-hitters plus Yoenis.

I don't think Terry intends on giving Cecchini any starts until this playoff race sorts itself out. He's practically said as much.

I myself was visioning on T.J. Rivera.

Is Reyes OK? If so, then why didn't Terry give him the steal sign?

Like you I expect it to be Go-Go Reyes soon after he reaches but I guess they are being more cautious in when they will have him Go-Go-Going. Maybe they feel he's still getting his legs back. Come crunch time down this stretch we do need Reyes to be as good a leadoff guy as he ever was. That's a lot to ask for at his age, but I think he can be that guy again.

For those listening to the SNY booth. Ha, Gary just said it. Why on earth would the minors use a different baseball?

Too many of those for him.
It's gotten to where the hits look like the exception as opposed to the beginning of the year when you almost expected him to hit the ball hard somewhere each time up.

I'm amazed at how slow my Verizon live coverage is sometimes. Cespedes was
still up but thanks for letting me know he KABOOMS!! I've noticed tweets too this
season sometimes a good 30 secs before I see it on the tv.
