Fman99 Old-Timey Member Posted August 6, 2016 Posted August 6, 2016 Wow, Walker took a ball to the noggin there. Way to take one for the team.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted August 6, 2016 Posted August 6, 2016 Oh, what an enormous break!Cabrera giveth.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted August 6, 2016 Posted August 6, 2016 I guess the strategy of "Just keep hitting double-play balls" wasn't very sustainable.

Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted August 6, 2016 Posted August 6, 2016 It took them three tries to hit into an inning-killing, soul-crushing GiDP before they finally succeeded.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted August 6, 2016 Posted August 6, 2016 So first they get the leadoff batter on, but then go: ground ball - ground ball - ground ball - ground ball - ground ball. And that all out of the top & middle of the order. That they were able to get two runs out of that mess was more a testament to the Tigers than to the Mets.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted August 6, 2016 Posted August 6, 2016 So by my count that's three GiDPs plus three others that the Tigers failed to turn. One wouldn't think such things were possible in one game by one team, but you wouldn't think that sub-.200 w/RiSP for a 110 game stretch wasn't either.

Fman99 Old-Timey Member Posted August 6, 2016 Posted August 6, 2016 Dammit. Bad slide by Bruce there.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted August 6, 2016 Posted August 6, 2016 So they finally get a hit with a RiSP (2 for 12 on the night) but it doesn't actually score a run.
bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted August 6, 2016 Posted August 6, 2016 The catcher can't block the plate but he can stick his leg in the path of the runner?
Zvon Old-Timey Member Posted August 6, 2016 Posted August 6, 2016 Yo, umps are idiots. You have to get a review because it gives the umps one more chance to fuck up. It's the last out of the game! Why wouldn't you call a review there? Sure, he was out, but you never know with umps these days. I have seen them reverse calls I couldn't believe. The Mets sucked. We all were kinda sad.
Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted August 6, 2016 Posted August 6, 2016 What do you have to lose by challenging here? Maybe he didn't give a lane?

bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted August 6, 2016 Posted August 6, 2016 Rubin: "Terry Collins said the Mets replay official believed there was no challenge on last play and that Jay Bruce was out. Collins acknowledged postgame that he should have challenged for the heck of it since there was nothing to lose."DUH. How was NOT challenging even an option. Second game in a row they didn't challenge when they should have--and the Mets have now found another aspect of baseball to be bad at.
Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted August 7, 2016 Posted August 7, 2016 Inexcusable really. Terry Collins should really not return next year.
