Yes, best of future health for David; neck/spine surgery eeek. It's
personally my worst nightmare. One has to wonder if we'll ever see
him on the field again. Kinda weird.

Get well David.

To the Mets: negotiate a buyout and let him start on the track to managing the Mets.

I don't want David in a wheelchair at 45.

Wishes for a speedy recovery and a pain-free future for the Captain.

Good luck, David!

Honestly, I feel this is best for all. Hopefully, the surgery helps David's pain and long term health. Plus, the Mets can commit to the rest of the season without him.

I don't think David Wright will be or even wants to be a manager. He just doesn't strike me as one.

Amazing how the insurance clause is now almost automatically in the first paragraph when stories like this crop up.

The Mets have an insurance policy on Wright which allows them to begin recouping 75 percent of his salary once he misses 60 games.
It will kick in in late-July, potentially resulting in $5 million in savings, reports Mike Puma of the NY Post.

Seems kind of like a broadcaster.

I wish him well.
As I understand it,this will help him with the vertebrae in his neck, but will have no effect on his spinal stenosis. Is that correct?

That guy with the giant sack they picked up in the draft maybe

Now you're just being silly, the same could be said for Yoenis.

And people should protect themselves from the incidentals of a baseball
game and stop looking at their phones when someone's up.

Hope he gets through this. Would hate for this to be the end with David.

In another time and place he'd be a natural for guest spots on Love Boat and Fantasy Island.

Ha! If my assumption is correct that's a bike riding cup he's wearing.

In later years playing softball I used one of those because it was much more comfortable. Instead of bunching everything up front (standard cup) this type of cup protected you from down under. Shaped sort of like a canoe. I can't find the one I had thru google but that was 15 years ago. Looks like they have changed the design a little bit. Designed for biking, but great for baseball, IMO.

And yea, I'm devastated and bummed.

I've typed the word devastated around 20 times in the last 48 hours and I still can't spell it correctly :(

I'm as big a Wright supporter as the next guy, maybe more, but if a guy needs neck surgery then he needs neck surgery.

This is Wilmer's big chance to be a productive member of Met society and if he doesn't succeed then I'm sure we'll move on. Francessa even before this talked of how he expects the Mets will make a "big move" but absent of replacing Granderson or Walker with a new bat (or maybe Doodoo if he can't return) I don;t see where they do it.

So they say it was a "discectomy" with fusion which, as I understand it anyway, means they removed the offending/irritating disc (essentially the cartilage 'padding' between two vertebrae) and fused those two now unpadded vertebrae together - the idea being that the fusing restores stability and the source of the pain, the bulging disc impinging on nerves, is gone.
The downside to that solution is that the spine is now less flexible than before. Think of a length of chain with two of its links welded together, it's now less able to be coiled, snaked, wrapped, whatever. It would definitely shoot the hell out of a ballet career. Baseball, maybe not, but each case would certainly vary.
