Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted May 8, 2016 Posted May 8, 2016 I know it's also Kentucky Derby Day today, but Bart's HR trot, now THAT'S the most exciting two minutes in sports!
Guest themetfairy Guests Posted May 8, 2016 Posted May 8, 2016 The 31-second trip around the bases was one to be savored.
Zvon Old-Timey Member Posted May 8, 2016 Posted May 8, 2016 It does deserve a thread. And a card, I imagine.I missed the point of contact live (doing graphics while watching) but Gary's voice instantly caught my attention and I looked at the TV. I wasn't even sure it was Colon until they showed him rounding 2nd. But I did see that ball land and it was WAY OUTTA THERE!Compile pics of HR here for his card if you find any, pretty please.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted May 8, 2016 Author Posted May 8, 2016 Fewer HRs than Bart this year:- Chase Headley (73 ABs, $13 million)- Darin Ruf (56 ABs)- Justin Turner (92)- Juan Lagares (40)- Howie Kendrick (69)- Jason Heyward (95)- Dee Gordon (even with all that help)- Francisco Cervelli (90)- both Rickie & Jemile Weeks (72 ABs combined)- most of the Braves roster (including Markakis, Francoeur, etc.)
Zvon Old-Timey Member Posted May 8, 2016 Posted May 8, 2016 ^Just look at that pic of the swing^ What a photo! I have to find out who took that.
RealityChuck Old-Timey Member Posted May 8, 2016 Posted May 8, 2016 761 to go! At this rate, he'll catch Bonds in 16,475 AD. Set your calendar!
Zvon Old-Timey Member Posted May 8, 2016 Posted May 8, 2016 The photo might be by Gregory Bull/ AP. I can't confirm this yet. Such a great shot.I guess they do focus on Colon hoping for a funny picture.Wow, Weeks fell. Aghhh, he's hurt.

Zvon Old-Timey Member Posted May 8, 2016 Posted May 8, 2016 I need a song to go with my cards. It's to be called The Legend Of Bartolo Colon. Don't make me do it all!(ha-making the cards is so easy). I'll need lyrics, Fman or I will write the music. Or Edgy, you play. This might be right up your alley. Fmans always putting out excellent stuff via fb and IIRC you posted a song once that also was excellent. Not sure if it should be folksy or what, but it should be legendary.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted May 8, 2016 Author Posted May 8, 2016 So I started the game on about a 20 minute delay while doing the gradual catch-up thing so was still about 10 minutes in arrears at the HR.Two things came to mind.1) When George Foreman was making his comeback (which started in his late '30s), one that was treated as a novelty at first and still as a long-shot even as he (re)climbed the ladder towards a title shot. When he finally got into a title match and pulled out a stunning knockout, the call (must have been from Jim Lampley) was simply "It Happened"That was the phrase that jumped into my mind.2) Bartolo was mom's last favorite player; she usually picked one. In recent years it went from Ike, then to R.A., and then, after those two were exiled, she picked out Colon. Like a lot of folks, I think she just got a kick out of the goofy nonchalantness he projects.Anyway, being a west coast game she might not have been awake for this one live, but she would have gotten a kick out of it.
TransMonk Old-Timey Member Posted May 8, 2016 Posted May 8, 2016 Coincidentally, this arrived at my house today:
G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted May 8, 2016 Posted May 8, 2016 The power to go deep, the power to evoke deeply. Bartolo has it all.
RealityChuck Old-Timey Member Posted May 8, 2016 Posted May 8, 2016 Wanna bet than, when Barolo retires, this will be the clip they show.

Zvon Old-Timey Member Posted May 8, 2016 Posted May 8, 2016 Love it^ I'd like to share that if you don't mind.Is this worded right? Is it the only record involved? Was 30 seconds around the bases some kind of anti-record?[fimg=600:2xsunk4r]https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-0Q0VPY4mTwQ/Vy-6j-PwwbI/AAAAAAAAnIw/jT7rSbLXB1ceODrcck0GUPAFk3LgOo6mQCCo/s912/2016mfcRB-COLONHR-z16.png[/fimg:2xsunk4r]Crap. I covered his arm. Back to the drawing board.
Zvon Old-Timey Member Posted May 8, 2016 Posted May 8, 2016 Wow, this is sweet. A Topps digcard. Everyone's using that same photo- it's a classic now.
Zvon Old-Timey Member Posted May 8, 2016 Posted May 8, 2016 ^That card is for sale at Topps online for $9.99. Now do they mail you the actual card or you just get the digital version? That makes no sense. They gotta mail you the card, right?
Zvon Old-Timey Member Posted May 8, 2016 Posted May 8, 2016 It's a real card. I have to get me that Colon.
Zvon Old-Timey Member Posted May 9, 2016 Posted May 9, 2016 This is also a real nice shot but I can't find a clearer/bigger copy.

I should add a 66Batman BAM! to where the bat hits the helmet.[fimg=600:2o1tebc8]https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-sXEDJL7WW9w/Vy_exxfDWlI/AAAAAAAAnJQ/uk4Msm6NOlQzSUUW1kYV9dlwI61B1AfDwCCo/s912/2016mfcRB-COLONHR-z16.png[/fimg:2o1tebc8]
