MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted January 18, 2016 Posted January 18, 2016 Again, I go for the hard news/ game report over the "what might be" headline.Later
batmagadanleadoff Old-Timey Member Posted January 18, 2016 Posted January 18, 2016 If you showed me all the entries at the beginning of the tournament, I would've never guessed that these two would make it to the final four. I hate that NY Citi one, especially. I hate just about all of the word play with "Citi". I can't think of anything more cliche.

Me neither. I had a hunch about "TEAM OF DESTINY" but beyond ruling out some obvious duds, I really had no idea which ones would emerge as favorites.
Ceetar Grand Central Contributor Posted January 18, 2016 Posted January 18, 2016 the number in name meme is so played out and it's not like the '4' here is really particularly meaningful or that anything in the game swung on his 4th hit. It's not like he hit a grand slam to win it. And there is way too much text on the cover.

I get the "4" thing but to me, it comes off as contrived and forced rather than clever.

Edgy MD Site Manager Posted January 18, 2016 Posted January 18, 2016 It also gets lost in the background.
Zvon Old-Timey Member Posted January 18, 2016 Posted January 18, 2016 I approached this vote differently. If I had those 2 newspapers and could only save one for posterity (translated: out in the garage), which would it be? Five years from now I'd want to have the Conforto cover.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted January 18, 2016 Author Posted January 18, 2016 I don't really care at all about "clever". I vote based on the visual appeal of the cover.I guess that's what helps make this contest so unpredictable; different voters use different criteria.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted January 22, 2016 Author Posted January 22, 2016 This poll closes on Monday morning. While you're snowed in for the next 48 hours you can pass the time by pondering these two covers.
