I cut Schwarber a little slack since I found out he played his college ball at Indiana U.

If you want to root for a Hoosier, go to a basketball game or rent the movie.
But as long as he is wearing a Cubs uniform in a game against the Mets, he gets no slack.

Not into haberdashery, but I thought the same thing.

Dusty with a good line on the postgame. They're talking about the ivy and how lucky the Cubs got.

"I've seen where a ball goes into the ivy and two or three other balls pop out."

Just want to say that the TBS Pre/Post game crew with Dusty, Sheff and Pedro are great...Sheff just gave a clinic in how Murphy has studied the pitchers in previous at bats and then cashes in on his HR

Terry in the postgame said the he knew the rules on the ball in the ivy and that there wasn't really anything he or the umps could do.

I'm not usually a big fan of managers yelling for no reason, but I like that he made a bit of a stink out there

btw, today (20th) is the 11th anniversary of the BoSox completing the comeback from 0-3 vs the Crankees - so I guess that makes tonight a kind of 'Double Happiness'.
"No way will the Yankees lose on Mickey Mantle's birthday" (10/20/1931) -- Mike Francesa
Umm, yes they can Mike.

Also Keith's birthday today (10/20/53)

great night! Saw Joe Jackson perform at Town Hall, then to the bar next door in time for the 7th. Everyone - and I mean everyone -- in our row and the one in front were checking the score until he took the stage: so when he came out I shouted "Cespedes!!" and got some laffs. As soon as the show let out people were agog over the WP K.

My brother had to catch the Metro North so I walked crosstown with Howie and Josh and heard the final out just as I got to the 3rd ave. 7 stop.

Drawback -- Heartland Brewery was full of clueless tourists and the TVs had bad reception, and the beer was too expensive.

Bonus -- Joe had a superb band, was in good humor, covered Bowie's 'Scary Monsters'; the Beatles' 'Girl'; and Televison's 'See No Evil.'

Did Joe play "Right & Wrong" and ask your opinion on the Yankees/Mets question?

I gotta read this whole thread. Just incredible!. Murph with another! And still, nothing's easy and nothing's ordinary. We had the ball on the wall play in '73. Now we have the ball in the wall play! Amazin'! up 3-0!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Murphy the merciless! Very kool.

Yea, the wild pitch K! Another story for the ages!

Not as kool as Murphy right now. I just noticed that the card would work just the same without the semi-colon after "MERCILESS".

Tonight's HR went to practically straight-away center. There was a graphic tonight -- I think it read that Murph's 24 for his last 48 against righties at Wrigley.

I fucking love semi-colons;
I also love Daniel Fucking Merciless Murphy and his Kustom Kard.

My dad -- a.k.a. Mr. FaFiF from the Game Seven 1986 thread -- enjoyed NLCS Game Three, though probably not as much as he did NLDS Game Five (he didn't nod off during the Dodger clincher). He did think he was witnessing another clinching when it was over. "A great tradition since 1908 has been maintained," he declared. Had to break it to him that he was either prescient or 24 hours early. Also had to report three times in the five minutes that followed the last out -- because he kept asking -- that a) the game was indeed over and B) the Mets had indeed won. So he needs a little reinforcement these days.

OTOH, this time, per special request, I brought pizza, and pizza makes everything championship.

What kind of monster goes to a gig during a playoff game featuring the Mets?

I see.

Did he dedicate "Real Men" to Daniel Murhpy?

Joe played Real Men but strangely he dedicated it Bryce Harper's Mom.

No right and wrong or any baseball reference. Highlight may have been "You Can't Get What You Want" (till you know what you want). Fortunately I knew what I wanted.

Sheesh, I want a son like Greg. Greg makes everything championship.

Pizza! Perfect choice!

You know, I read somewhere that Joe Jackson was a one hit wonder and I thought "huh"? Glad to see he's still playing

Joe has hit the Hot 100 six times, and hit #101 with a seventh. And that's just stateside.

He's on my Alternative Imaginary R'n'RHoF shortlist.
