TransMonk Old-Timey Member Posted October 8, 2015 Posted October 8, 2015 I don't really care, but I think the Jays are the best team in the AL (with my limited knowledge of the junior circuit), so I guess I look for them to succeed. After the Cardinals, are the Jays the team left that has won a championship most recently? What a joy to be in the meat of the post-season without the Red Sox, Giants and Yankees in attendance! Now the Cards should go fuck themselves too and give someone else a chance.

Cardinals, 2011. Cubs, 1908. Dodgers, 1988. Blue Jays, 1993. Astros, never. Rangers, never. Royals, 1980.Unless it's St. Louis, somebody's going to end a lengthy dry spell.
Gwreck Old-Timey Member Posted October 8, 2015 Posted October 8, 2015 Royals are 1985, not 1980 (they lost to Philadelphia that year), but of course the point holds.

Ceetar Grand Central Contributor Posted October 8, 2015 Posted October 8, 2015 if you're gonna abbreviate the poll like that, there is only one choice.I have an obvious affinity for AL East teams that the Yanks, enemy of my enemy and all that jazz.
Gwreck Old-Timey Member Posted October 8, 2015 Posted October 8, 2015 Self interested standpoint: Mets probably would do better against the Rangers in a hypothetical World Series matchup. Hence I would root for them.Really though: I don't care all that much. I hold no particular animosity or particular favor towards either team, or their fanbase, or any particular players (except maybe Dickey).

Hence I would root for them.My self interested standpoint is i don't want to travel back-and-forth to Dallas to watch the World Series. Additional self interested standpoint: The Burger Priest is the second best burger i've tasted in North America (2nd only to the Burger Joint on 56th & 6th) and it's only available in the Greater Toronto Area.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted October 8, 2015 Posted October 8, 2015 Looking at that Toronto (and, remember, you don't pronounce the second t) lineup:On the team one year ago?Revere - NopeDonaldson - NopeTulowitski - NopeSmoak - NopeMartin - NopeGoins & Pillar - yes, although in backup rolesPrice - NopeSo that essentially leaves the two big boys in the middle there - Encarnacion & Bautista - as leftovers from 2014.It seems like the Jays had their big makeover 2 or 3 years back (the Dickey deal, the big one with the Marlins) but it's really been more like one long continuous shuffle.

Guest El Segundo Escupidor Guests Posted October 8, 2015 Posted October 8, 2015 Baustita boofs one to cut the lead to 4-3What a game ..... I <3 playoff baseball!
Zvon Old-Timey Member Posted October 8, 2015 Posted October 8, 2015 5-3 Texas after 8. I can't enjoy a day game on TV as much if the sky isn't available.
Zvon Old-Timey Member Posted October 8, 2015 Posted October 8, 2015 Rangers take game one. I voted I don't give a shit but I still watched an hour of this game. I need to get a life.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted October 8, 2015 Posted October 8, 2015 This game was starting to have a body count.Donaldson & Bautista on the Toronto side and Beltre for Texas all walked off the field mid-game with some assorted owwie or another. Beltre's (back) looked most serious. Bautista was reported as a tight hammy while Donaldson took a knee to the cranium and needed to be checked out.
Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted October 8, 2015 Posted October 8, 2015 I'm kind of pissed off that that scumbag Michael Kay was yapping on the radio and I couldn't find the broadcast of this game. WTF? Anyone know where these games are on the radio?

Guest d'Kong76 Guests Posted October 8, 2015 Posted October 8, 2015 Why do they jump through hoops to line up regionally prime time games and stick this one where they did?
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted October 8, 2015 Posted October 8, 2015 Are Houston and Kansas City a bigger combined market than Toronto and Dallas/Fort Worth? I remember when postseason games were on broadcast networks, they didn't like having Toronto in the playoffs (I think I'm recalling 1985 here) because the networks weren't selling advertising time in Canada. I don't know, but I doubt that that's still a factor.
MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted October 9, 2015 Posted October 9, 2015 Blue Jays. There's gonna' be an order of poutine VS a bagel and lox wager with my buddy in Tarana over a Mets/ Jays World Series.Later

I don't know, but I doubt that that's still a factor.Houston is a surprisingly large city -- fourth largest in the country and nipping at Chicago's heels. That's partially to it being really spread out. Sadly, I suspect 85 percent of the city is football obsessed. San Antonio is actually larger than Dallas -- and I would never have guessed that until I saw the list while searching for Houston's population.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted October 9, 2015 Posted October 9, 2015 I like the Ranger uniforms far more than the Blue Jays, and that's usually what I go for in American League match ups. But if I can't root for John Gibbons and R.A. Dickey and Jos Reyes, who can I root for?Wait, a minute... what?!

Guest Mets Willets Point Guests Posted October 9, 2015 Posted October 9, 2015 Interesting trivia: Toronto is the 30th and last team to appear in a Divisional Series.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted October 9, 2015 Posted October 9, 2015 Really? I would never have guessed that.

Even worse, it's Berman and Sutcliffe.
