Wow. That is crazy. Forget about sports affiliation. There is no place for hate like that against anyone on the air.

If you said that about any group, be it race, religion, gender, hometown, you would be fired. I hope the blogosphere takes off with this and never lets him live it down.

I'm about a pretty big Met fan, and I don't say things like this about rival teams fans, even as a joke. The scary thing is I think he actually feels this way. Crazy.

Michael Kay talked about Mets fans on his show today. First, he said so many Mets fans are such vicious, vile people. Then he added, apparently explaining how he got criticism for saying that Mets hitters would struggle against Clayton Kershaw and Zack Greinke (and dismissed that the Dodgers would have similar issues during day games against the Mets power pitchers) that he hopes they choke on their own bile.

I have to admit, I don't know who Michael Kay is. It looks like he's someone affiliated with the Yankees somehow. And, of course, an asshole.

Patented "see ya!" call on Yankee homers you've probably at least
heard on the news. If anyone has rode the coattails of the Yankees'
two-decade long overwhelming-popularity run it's Michael Kay.

Newspaper man turned broadcaster who did radio for a time before being tapped to be the lead voice/face of the Yanx when they created the YES network.
More recently he hooked on with ESPN as the afternoon yakker for their NYC affiliate - and therein lies part of the problem. I'm sure he made those remarks in the more rough and tumble talk radio part of his life and not during a Yanqui telecast. And while I'm sure HE has no problem compartmentalizing between the rules of decorum between the two, fans who hear that aren't going to make a distinction, they'll just remember: Yankee voice insulting Met fans.

Claims to be the nephew of Danny Aiello

I recognize the name Michael Kay and am familiar with his role with Yankee broadcasts (from discussions on the CPF), but I never knew, until now, what a totally, ignorant jerk he was.

so many Mets fans are such vicious, vile people.

He never listened to, or watched, the Bleacher Creatures at YS III?
Primordial sludge from the bottom of the gene pool.
Each and every one of them.

I'm surprised. When he first started on his daily radio gig, he said he had never eaten ketchup (and never done a few other things that IIRC seemed fairly common). You'd think an elitist prick like him wouldn't associate with MFY fans, either.

If one of our announcers said something that nasty about opposing fans we'd never hear the end of it.

It's just ridiculously out of line.

This stemmed from him saying Noah Syndergaard wasn't a power pitcher, which is just a ridiculous thing for anyone that's watched him even once or really anyone that knows anything about baseball and read a stat page.

Really there is roughly zero reason to listen to WFAN or ESPN. This is the same tactic the First Take idiots take. Double down on stupidity and get aggressive with it and people will hate-listen/watch. Good for attention.

It's also, in it's own know-nothing way, savvy. Bait a couple of angry callers to respond, and whammo, I WUZ RIGHT!!11!!

I still occasionally enjoy listening to Steve Somers, Richard Neer, Ed Randall...
let's not paint with too broad a brush.
