Edgy MD Site Manager Posted August 2, 2015 Posted August 2, 2015 Keep in mind, this home stand opened with John Mayberry, Jr. batting cleanup and the Mets roundly mocked.

Ceetar Grand Central Contributor Posted August 2, 2015 Posted August 2, 2015 Good series all. Good job. Feel free to treat yourself to a fish fry for dinner tomorrow night.
G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted August 2, 2015 Posted August 2, 2015 Mets haven't held a share of first place this late in the season since right this freaking minute.
Gwreck Old-Timey Member Posted August 2, 2015 Posted August 2, 2015 Fantastic game. No, Citi Field doesn't shake, and probably never will. It does get loud though, and it was revelation to see this kind of crowd at an August game in this park.Fans had lots of fun taunting Harper as the game went on. I also enjoyed the "you are out" chant while Lobaton stood around at first base waiting for the umpires to finish the video review.Mets now selling a great merchandise item: a foam Hammer, with 34 on one side and the Mets logo on the other. I was also encouraged to see people walking around with Cespedes 52 shirts already.
TransMonk Old-Timey Member Posted August 3, 2015 Posted August 3, 2015 I can't remember feeling this good about a series in many, many years. What a weekend!
Ceetar Grand Central Contributor Posted August 3, 2015 Posted August 3, 2015 [u:9q60wdbj]Bryce Harper Facts[/u:9q60wdbj]Bryce Harper's homered in 10 different ballparks this season, but not Citi Field. Bryce Harper's .576 OPS at Citi Field this season is the lowest of any of the 15th parks he's played in.The career leaders in Striking Out Bryce Harper are Matt Harvey, R.A. Dickey and Antonio Bastardo with 7There is only one pitcher in the game that Bryce Harper has faced more than 9 times who he doesn't have a hit against...Matt Harvey. In 26 career PA against Matt Harvey and Jeurys Familia, Bryce Harper has 12 Ks, 3 BB, and ZERO hits.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted August 3, 2015 Posted August 3, 2015 That said, the fans taunting Harper the way they were doing was terrifying.

Fortunately nothing else happened. One of the downfalls of calling the game from the left field bleachers is that they just aren't used to calling a game from that vantage point. I'm thinking they thought it was foul and continued yammering about whatever they were yammering about. The ESPN crew was tolerable...mostly because they were GUSHING about the Mets all night. It's been a long time since that has happened.

Ceetar Grand Central Contributor Posted August 3, 2015 Posted August 3, 2015 Josh Lewin's calls were great. Just listened to them on MLB.tv since I have an at-bat account. (they're in the regular game highlights too, the must-c part.) Murphy's: "He creams it to right. There it goes! Are you kidding? It's gone again! 3-1 NY. Back to back pitches into an exploding upper deck."
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted August 3, 2015 Posted August 3, 2015 Josh's work this last week has put him in serious danger of becoming Howie's equal or superior in my heart.
Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted August 3, 2015 Posted August 3, 2015 Yeah. I love our radio team.I'll grumble about the owners all day, but we have the best broadcasters in the world.I mean, except maybe that Scully guy.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted August 4, 2015 Posted August 4, 2015 Matt Williams' performance in the weekend series has him in everybody's crosshairs. It's unforgivable to go into a series this big and lose two one run games where the Mets scored the winning run in their final at bat without your top two relievers getting on the field at some point!
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted August 4, 2015 Posted August 4, 2015 A less strident/more analytical look on the same story hereCouple observations:1) I'm surprised anyone (besides us) noticed because I figured that once training camps opened that all Washington Post sports reporters were transferred over the the Redskins beat2) The biggest off-season move that Rizzo made (aside from signing Scherzer) was dealing Clip-Art away for Yunel Escobar and allowing Rafael Soriano to walk. Both were good moves on the whole but they also knew it came at the expense of bullpen depth which getting Casey Janssen alone wasn't going to fix.3) But then once you go out and get Papelbon there's no excuse not to use him and/or Storen at some point in those games - although Williams is hardly the only manager who makes a habit of 'saving' his back-end guys for the lead protecting inning that never comes.
