Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted June 2, 2015 Posted June 2, 2015 I'm sure that's Richard Deacon.
Zvon Old-Timey Member Posted June 2, 2015 Posted June 2, 2015 That looks like Richard Deacon, most known as Mel Cooley on the Dick Van Dyke show...Very good and thank you. I don't think that guy ever looked young. He will be forever linked in my mind with the dawn of microwave ovens. His name was in the corner of the other ad but I couldn't make it out. This ad says: " Richard Deacon, star of his own cooking show, Deacon Does It In The Kitchen."He had a cooking show? In the days of 13 channels? The Blue Jays slapped the Nats around and are now leading 7-3, in Washington (said Toronto earlier).[fimg=500]http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-mNq1AxSxBXQ/UFlawmhxLMI/AAAAAAAACjU/xYTSB8gSPGw/s1600/deacon73.jpg[/fimg]

Lefty Specialist Old-Timey Member Posted June 8, 2015 Posted June 8, 2015 Nats fans have to be pretty pissed at this point. The division is theirs for the taking and they're just fumbling and bumbling. Long season to go, though I think we'd all have signed up for first place on the morning of June 8th.Unfortunately, we also know we've seen this before. Flashes of first-half competence washed away by second-half meltdowns. It's kind of a trademark.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted June 8, 2015 Posted June 8, 2015 What's mainly happening here is that the East division is getting its collective butt kicked now that they're playing out of division games. It was hard to judge the group in April as they mostly just played each other, but the division now is cumulative 18 game under .500 and almost all of that is from May & early JuneNLC = +6; NLW = +6 (NL as a whole is 37-43 in interleague play)Nats in particular have losing records against: TOR, CUBS, StL, REDS, & BOSOX (6-13 total) with only a cumulative 5-2 vs ARZ & SD to balance it off.
Ceetar Grand Central Contributor Posted June 8, 2015 Posted June 8, 2015 I keep expecting this iffy play by both clubs to start getting updates like "The Braves are only a game behind now!" but they're still under .500 though that's only 3 back at this point. The other two "baseball" teams of course are tire fires.
Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted June 8, 2015 Posted June 8, 2015 Wow. Thank god we are in the east. If they were in the West, they'd be in third place, if they were in the Central they'd be in fourth. Even with yesterday's offensive explosion, the Mets are still 25th in the majors in OPS, the worst of any contender.
dgwphotography Old-Timey Member Posted June 8, 2015 Posted June 8, 2015 With the crappy records in the NL East, combined with the number of Mets injuries, 2015 is starting to have a 1973 type vibe...
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted June 8, 2015 Author Posted June 8, 2015 Maybe. I think they're gonna do well better than 82-79, though.
Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted June 8, 2015 Posted June 8, 2015 Interesting question, if offered to you right now, would you take that? Exciting race, make the playoffs, go to the WS, lose in 7 when Terry puts Harvey out for game 6 on short rest?
Gwreck Old-Timey Member Posted June 8, 2015 Posted June 8, 2015 Making the World Series (regardless of outcome) would deem this season a resounding success.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted June 8, 2015 Author Posted June 8, 2015 I'll stick with whatever's behind the curtain, I think.Anyhow, baseball with the ending pre-written (even a mostly good one) takes most of the fun out.

Guest d'Kong76 Guests Posted June 8, 2015 Posted June 8, 2015 Is anyone sure that Harvey would be available to pitch in a longcold postseason... his mound time would be used up, no?

Part of the deal would have to be that your mind is wiped of any memory of having made the decision of how the season turns out.

(Although it now looks like the six-man rotation isn't going to be the way they do that.)Whether they manage to do so, or whether it will even matter, of course remains to be seen.

Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted June 10, 2015 Posted June 10, 2015 Back into a 1st place tie as the Nats end their losing streak and the Yanx winning streak with an 11th inning win today in da Bronx. In wondering whether we'd hold onto 1st place or slip below .500, I was beginning to think the answer was going to be 'Both'
