Edgy MD Site Manager Posted February 23, 2015 Posted February 23, 2015 Let it be henceforth known that B.J. Upton is now Melvin Upton, Jr.
TransMonk Old-Timey Member Posted February 23, 2015 Posted February 23, 2015 He'd had been better off changing his name to Justin.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted February 23, 2015 Author Posted February 23, 2015 B.J. Mora was reportedly also under consideration.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted February 23, 2015 Posted February 23, 2015 There are probably very few people who have ever chosen to rename themselves "Melvin".

Edgy MD Site Manager Posted February 23, 2015 Author Posted February 23, 2015 It's going to go through the NL East. Every two years, a player will re-declare his name. Two years from now, Anthony Rendon will become "Michel-Luc" Rendon. Two years after that, Bobby Parnell will become "Cleveland Parnell III." And finally two years after that, Ben Revere will become "Smokey."Just that. "Smokey." No last name.
dinosaur jesus Old-Timey Member Posted February 23, 2015 Posted February 23, 2015 Roberto Clemente was called Bob early in his career. Sounds weird now. Manny Lee announced one year that he wanted to be called by his name, Manuel. I remember some sportswriters snickering about that. Pete Jablonowski never accomplished much until he changed his name to Appleton.
