Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted November 29, 2014 Posted November 29, 2014 Billy Beane continues to swim against the current by dealing the thought-to-be untouchable Josh Donaldson to Toronto for a package of young players headed by Brett Lawrie.Donaldson, turning 29 next week and not a FA until 2019, is coming off back to back seasons where he was a top-10 MVP (4th & 8th).Infielder Lawrie goes to Oakland along with pitching prospects Sean Nolin & Kendall Graveman, plus 18 y/o infielder Franklin Barreto.
Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted November 29, 2014 Posted November 29, 2014 Wow. Donaldson is a killer and fwiw Brett Lawrie always struck me as an asshole. Inasmuch as this trade makes it even more difficult for the MFYS to compete in 2015 I applaud but think Beane is probably still a mad genius.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted November 29, 2014 Author Posted November 29, 2014 Yeah, Lawrie was a fairly highly touted prospect IIRC, but seemed more interested for a while there to have his tattoo count keep up with his ML HR totals.
Guest LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Guests Posted November 29, 2014 Posted November 29, 2014 Well, Beane's certainly selling high, and he's sure-as-William-Tell buying low.

Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted December 3, 2014 Posted December 3, 2014 Prolly not. But he gave that table-dancing-after-losses Jeremy Giambi what-for in Moneyball. Not only did he trade him, but to Philadelphia.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted December 3, 2014 Author Posted December 3, 2014 OF Michael Saunders dealt from Seattle to Toronto for former Philly hurler JA Happ
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted December 8, 2014 Author Posted December 8, 2014 Brandon Moss from Oakland to Cleveland for infield prospect Joe Wendle.
Guest LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Guests Posted December 8, 2014 Posted December 8, 2014 That's so A's. (And seems especially so since I looked up Moss' age-- I would've guessed he was 28 or 29.)
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted December 9, 2014 Author Posted December 9, 2014 DBacks catcher Miguel Montero heads to Wrigley in exchange for two minor leaguers (nothing special ones as far as I can see).
Gwreck Old-Timey Member Posted December 10, 2014 Posted December 10, 2014 Jimmy Rollins traded to Dodgers.
Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted December 10, 2014 Posted December 10, 2014 Not even saying for who yet.I'd have liked J-Roll on the '14 Mets, I woulda.
A Boy Named Seo Old-Timey Member Posted December 10, 2014 Posted December 10, 2014 Doyers sorta have a glut of INF'ers with Rollins, Gordon, youngin Kyle Seager, and the one-eared Cuban, Alex Guerrero. Just sayin'.
G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted December 10, 2014 Posted December 10, 2014 With Rollins's departure and subsequent Dodger participation, the active MLB player who's played the most games for one team and one team only is...David Wright.Wright, NYM: 1,508Utley, PHI: 1,478Howard, PHI: 1,331Molina, STL: 1,328Mauer: MIN: 1,298

A Boy Named Seo Old-Timey Member Posted December 10, 2014 Posted December 10, 2014 WOW. Heaney's a stud. I kinda like it for the Dodgers.
A Boy Named Seo Old-Timey Member Posted December 10, 2014 Posted December 10, 2014 For the record, Ned Colletti does NOT make that trade if he's still GM.
Lefty Specialist Old-Timey Member Posted December 10, 2014 Posted December 10, 2014 So what will this trade look like when Haren refuses to go to the Marlins?
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted December 11, 2014 Author Posted December 11, 2014 (edited) Just so I have this all straight: - the Dodgers, in what looks to be an intent to get younger & cheaper, traded Dan Haren (who they just signed as a FA one year ago) & Dee Gordon away in a seven player to the Marlins for all young players, part of which will have to get re-worked if Haren follows through on his threat to retire if he's not pitching in either LA or Anaheim next year- they then reversed that trend by flipping the biggest piece from that haul, pitching prospect Andrew Haney (#9 overall pick 2012 draft), to Anaheim for 2B Howie Kendrick to replace Gordon- they then continued that youth movement by signing Jimmy Rollins- they then (reportedly) are replacing Haren by signing 31 y/o Brandon McCarthy [32-41, 3.81, 1.25 over the last four seasons] to a 4-yr deal at $12 mil per (Haren was slated to make $11)- and there are rumors that a Matt Kemp swap to SD is getting close, possibly for catcher Yasmani GrandalAmazing how much retooling is needed for a 94-win team with a 1/4 billion dollar payroll. Edited December 11, 2014 by Guest
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted December 11, 2014 Author Posted December 11, 2014 The one side note to all this is that McCarthy was inexplicably good for the Yanx following his mid-season trade from Arizona and was a factor in allowing them to hang in the pennant race far beyond all reason.2014 w/ARZ: 18 starts; 3-10; 5.01 ERA; 1.38 WHiP2014 w/NYY: 14 starts; 7-5; 2.89 ERA; 1.15 WHiP... so this signing w/LA leaves one more hole in the MFY rotation.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted December 11, 2014 Posted December 11, 2014 SAN DIEGO The Los Angeles Dodgers continued their makeover Thursday morning by agreeing on a deal that will send outfielder Matt Kemp to the San Diego Padres, a high-ranking official with direct knowledge of the deal told USA TODAY Sports.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted December 11, 2014 Author Posted December 11, 2014 Well that was quick (especially seeing as how it's only 6AM in Sandy Eggo).Reportedly a five player deal with the Padres getting Kemp and catcher Tim Federowicz -- in exchange for C Yasmani Grandal, P Joe Wieland and a minor League pitcher believed to be Zach Eflin.

Edgy MD Site Manager Posted December 11, 2014 Posted December 11, 2014 The Dodgers are going nuts, aren't they?
Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted December 11, 2014 Posted December 11, 2014 Dodgers are so smug. I hope they lose 150 games next year.
A Boy Named Seo Old-Timey Member Posted December 11, 2014 Posted December 11, 2014 Yeah, they totally are. I guess it'll be like this:CF Joc Pederson (Matt Kemp)SS Jimmy Rollins (Hanley Ramirez)2B Howie Kendrick (Dee Gordon)C Yasmani Grandal (AJ Ellis)edit: SP Brandon McCarthy (Dan Haren)Coming back are Adrian Gonzalez (1B), Juan Uribe (3B), Puig, Crawford, and Ethier (OF)That's a lot of tinkering with a 94-win team, huh!?
A Boy Named Seo Old-Timey Member Posted December 11, 2014 Posted December 11, 2014 Marlins get Mat Latos. He seems like a Marlin.
