Well, it's not as if they've been lacking for good young talent. It's just that the breakout seasons for those guys have been in Year 2 or 3 of late (or run concurrent with an even bigger rookie year, as with Puig/Jose Fernandez).

Are there any strong rookies in the NL this year? Or do deGrom and perhaps, d'Arnaud, have a legitimate shot? I think d'Arnaud needs to get his batting average up above .250, which won't be easy at this point, to really get into the conversation. DeGrom's handicap is that the innings limit will likely prevent him from finishing the season.

we had this going in another thread.

Not that voters use fWAR mostly, but Billy Hamilton had built quite a lead.

Billy Hamilton 3.2
Chris Owings 1.9
Jacob deGrom 1.7
..
Travis d'Arnaud 0.6
Eric Campbell 0.5
Jeurys Familia 0.5

It's been a while for the Dodgers, hasn't it? With no more Tommy LaSorda.

Though the Dodgers haven't produced a ROY since 1996, Hollandsworth, their last winner, was the fifth of five straight Dodger ROY's, a major league record:

1996 Todd Hollandsworth
1995 Hideo Nomo
1994 Raul Mondesi
1993 Mike Piazza
1992 Eric Karros

During Lasorda's managerial stint, the Dodgers also ran off a four straight ROY streak from 1979-1982:

1982 Steve Sax
1981 Fernando Valenzuela
1980 Steve Howe
1979 Rick Sutcliffe

Dodgers also won the ROY in four of the award's first seven seasons:

1953 Jim Gilliam
1952 Joe Black

1951
1950
1949 Don Newcombe
1948
1947 Jackie Robinson

Here's a list of each team's next to last ROY winner:

2011 Rays Jeremy Hellickson
2009 Marlins Chris Coghlan
2005 A's Huston Street
2000 Mariners Kazuhiro Sasaki
2000 Braves Rafael Furcal
1999 Royals Carlos Beltran
1998 Cubs Kerry Wood
1998 Dbacks -No D'back ever won the ROY
1997 Phillies Scott Rolen
1997 Red Sox Nomar Garciaparra

David Wight?

Neither David Wight nor David Wright managed to finish in the money, putting up a rookie year that was only a third of a year.

Matt Harvey (10 starts) similarly watched the RotY action from the sidelines.

How about Ike.

Remember when Ike had potential?

You don't get RotY for potential, but performance, and Ike exhibited performance.
