G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted October 11, 2013 Posted October 11, 2013 The MFYs' archrivals, the Red Sox, will take on the team that knocked the MFYs out of the postseason the last three times they had the chance, the Tigers. From that perspective, they are both worthy combatants for the American League pennant.Your Red Sox and your Tigers have never entered the squared postseason circle against one another. They did engage each other manfully for titles in 1915 (Red Sox by 2 1/2), 1967 (Red Sox by 1), 1972 (Tigers by 1/2 -- strike year with games that went unplayed) and 1988 (Red Sox by 1) before Detroit suddenly found geography and shifted its stripes to the Central Division (which sounds very Soviet). This is only the second ALCS between original junior circuit members that have stayed permanently put -- not like your carpetbagging Baltimore MFYs who moved to Manhattan in 1903; the other was in 2007, when the Boston Americans edged the Cleveland Blues in seven games. Many find the Red Sox and their Nation overbearing. I imagine the good people of the East Bay have had it with the Tigers, particularly the habit Justin Verlander has of tossing his glove on the mound and destroying their dreams. But save for the disgusting presence of Shane Victorino, I have no complaints with this matchup.Gotta love a (an?) MFYless ALCS.
Guest Mets Guy in Michigan Guests Posted October 11, 2013 Posted October 11, 2013 Detroit could use something to cheer about.
Theoldmole Old-Timey Member Posted October 11, 2013 Posted October 11, 2013 I have New England roots, and the Red Sox were my American League team as a kid. Now, I find them too much like the Yankees. Soulless.

Fman99 Old-Timey Member Posted October 11, 2013 Posted October 11, 2013 I'm rooting for the two teams that haven't won a World Series in this millennium. I feel for fans of any team that has waited 20+ years to celebrate a championship.

Gwreck Old-Timey Member Posted October 12, 2013 Posted October 12, 2013 Anibal Sanchez walks the bases loaded in the 6th. 11 Ks and 0 hits so far.

Guest Mets Willets Point Guests Posted October 12, 2013 Posted October 12, 2013 This is a bizarre pitching duel.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted October 12, 2013 Posted October 12, 2013 A tale of two 1-0 games:NL today -- 2:40 for the entire game with 8 pitchers used, including 2 in-inning pitching changesAL tonight: 2:50 through 6-1/2 innings (so far) with 3 pitchers used and 1 in-inning pitching change
Guest Mets Willets Point Guests Posted October 12, 2013 Posted October 12, 2013 Sanchez leaves the game with a no-hitter.
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted October 12, 2013 Posted October 12, 2013 Hard to hit a guy that does not exist.
Zvon Old-Timey Member Posted October 12, 2013 Posted October 12, 2013 These have been some good post season games. That's really what I wish for the most. I hope the world series itself isn't anticlimactic.
Zvon Old-Timey Member Posted October 12, 2013 Posted October 12, 2013 Damn. Santa Claus is a Bo-Sox fan.
Gwreck Old-Timey Member Posted October 12, 2013 Posted October 12, 2013 4 outs to go as the Tigers go to pitcher #4
Guest Mets Willets Point Guests Posted October 12, 2013 Posted October 12, 2013 I hope everyone is watching this. The Tigers are throwing a no-hitter.
Zvon Old-Timey Member Posted October 12, 2013 Posted October 12, 2013 Big catch. If they scored more Boston would be more sunken then they must feel now.
Guest LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Guests Posted October 12, 2013 Posted October 12, 2013 I don't know; I find tense pitchers' duels with a history-in-the-making overlay dull, because there are precious few dingers involved.
Guest Mets Willets Point Guests Posted October 12, 2013 Posted October 12, 2013 One run game in the bottom of the 9th. Anything can happen.
Zvon Old-Timey Member Posted October 12, 2013 Posted October 12, 2013 Imagine the pressure on this guy. If its a starting pitcher and he blows it, its he himself who loses out on the no-no. This guy is repp'in a bunch of pitchers that would like to achieve this.
Guest Mets Willets Point Guests Posted October 12, 2013 Posted October 12, 2013 Either way it's exciting. No hitter = amazing. Red Sox win on last at bat = amazing.
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted October 12, 2013 Posted October 12, 2013 Benoit to me always looks like a guy on the mound where one hit would send him into a tailspin.....there's a look on his face.
Zvon Old-Timey Member Posted October 12, 2013 Posted October 12, 2013 Wow, they are getting calls but none that weren't borderline. 17 Ks by the Sox.
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted October 12, 2013 Posted October 12, 2013 A fucking hit...a dying quail?
