Memories of John Buck

He conceived a great April and his wife gave birth over the next four months. Caught Harvey very well.

Even taking the vicious pie-ing out of the equation, seemed to have a chip on his shoulder and take seriously his role of enforcer of big-leaguingess.

I don't know if it was him pointing to the photographer as if to say "You're an important part of this --- we need a record" or his after-the-fact look over his shoulder as if to punctuate the pie-ing with "... Fucko!" but I find the whole thing mesmerizing, even it was a mouthful of pepper on top of a sweet tasty walkoff grand slam of a dessert.

And then there was his tender side, which appeared last night and maybe inks out the pie-ing as the most indelible animated-giffible memory o' Buck.

It's that pie to Jordanny that I'll remember the most.

When I saw him being interviewed in spring training, I thought of him as a possible future manager somewhere.

That pie made me back off that a bit.

Way better than Brian Schneider. World-class April!

I'm glad he's some other team's Veteran Macho Enforcer now.

Current major league manager Terry Collins probably would have delivered the pie to Jordany if Buck hadn't gone there first.

Yeah, in my eyes, that pie made him more employable --- if less desirable for a team I care about.

That customized helmet, by the way, is the last of it's kind, as the league has otherwise outlawed the NHL thang.

Those two gifs specifically, the fact that he hit 30 home runs in April, and his helmet.

Dat^. And the fact that he could handle any delivery, including his wifes. Bentley, I hardly knew ye!

With the way that delivery went, they probably should have considered naming the kid "Trachsel."

He started out like gangbusters - that was a beautiful April. And how he was Harvey's personal catcher.

I'll remember that and his ever pregnant wife.

Another spare part that exceeded expectations, at least at first.

Had a Todd Hundley'esque April, and then a Brian Schneider'esque rest of the season...yet, still was the best catcher that we have had for several years...

I'm still happy to move onto the d'Arnaud era; and I like the idea of Recker as the backup better...I'll miss the cool helmet, but not his pitch calling...

Not sure if it's been covered anywhere but...

Mets records & Catcher's ERA by catcher :

Anthony "I get no respect" Recker: 17-11 (6 games over .500 %: .607 %);
No starts with the Ace;
Catcher's ERA: 3.01;
DWAR: +0.4;

John Buck: 41-55 (14 games under .500 % : .427 %);
Subtracting Harvey's numbers since Wrecker didn't get the opportunity: 28-43 (15 games under .500 % : .394);
Catcher's ERA: 3.94;
DWAR: -0.3;

Travis d': 3-6 (3 games under .500 % : .333%);
1 start catching the Ace, which was a loss;
Catcher's ERA: 4.58 (but still in the learning stages);
DWAR: -0.1;
