dinosaur jesus Old-Timey Member Posted August 23, 2013 Posted August 23, 2013 So is a gyroball called that because it's like a gyroscope, free to rotate about one or both of two axes perpendicular to each other and to the axis of spin? Or because it spins slowly like a hunk of lamb and beef on a spit, dripping delicious juices? And if it's the second, then how are you supposed to pronounce it? A waitress the other day asked me if I wanted Euro meat on my Greek omelette. I had no idea how to answer that.

seawolf17 Old-Timey Member Posted August 23, 2013 Posted August 23, 2013 I read once that the teen numbers are your "ace pitcher" numbers in Japan. 18 specifically, I think, although of course we retired 18 for Darryl.

Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted August 23, 2013 Posted August 23, 2013 So Greg Burke gets promoted after a month in the minors, throws five pitches (one hit out of the park), then gets demoted again (quite possibly to resurface in 10 days time).

Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted August 23, 2013 Posted August 23, 2013 Has anyone been counting how many times Greg Burke has been promoted and demoted this year?

Zvon Old-Timey Member Posted August 23, 2013 Posted August 23, 2013 That's the first time I did not see Byrd busting it, off the foul ball by Jackson in the first. He didn't have a chance for it, I don't think.Tori Hunter says HI THERE DAISUKE! with a no doubt kaboomer. He blasted that outta Citi.
Zvon Old-Timey Member Posted August 23, 2013 Posted August 23, 2013 After a K on Jackson to start the game the Tigers smack 3 hits in a row. The homer and two singles. Is this any way to eat up innings? He better settle down. We need at least 5 from him, I figure.Gets a shallow pop up to center. Nice
Zvon Old-Timey Member Posted August 23, 2013 Posted August 23, 2013 Gets out of it with minimum damage.1-0 Tiggers

Zvon Old-Timey Member Posted August 23, 2013 Posted August 23, 2013 UGH! Well, at least he allowed Murphy to get to second. Great point by the booth. Young could have gone back to second, where he would have stayed and Murphy called out.Dont matter. Byrd drives in Muffy.
Zvon Old-Timey Member Posted August 23, 2013 Posted August 23, 2013 Young with a nice diving catch. He popped up from that grab faster than he went down for it. Saves a run.1st and 2nd, 2 out, tied 1-1.
Zvon Old-Timey Member Posted August 23, 2013 Posted August 23, 2013 Hunter doubles over Lagares head to straight center. Breaks the tie.Cabrera follows with a 3 run boom.5-1
Lefty Specialist Old-Timey Member Posted August 23, 2013 Posted August 23, 2013 So I'm thinking this whole Dice-K thing may not end well.

Zvon Old-Timey Member Posted August 23, 2013 Posted August 23, 2013 That was a 1-2-3 inning! If we pull him and release him now it ends well!
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted August 23, 2013 Posted August 23, 2013 Lagares runs down balls like a good cop running down punks. Two straight scoreless from the nu guy. Time to sorta rock.[youtube:3fvfjmid]YmmjtzDrdGk[/youtube:3fvfjmid]("Sweet Jane" + "It's All I Can Do")
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted August 23, 2013 Posted August 23, 2013 Infield hit for the slow guy. (Cabrera = slower.)
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted August 23, 2013 Posted August 23, 2013 They have d'Arnaud's statistical display say "H/AB: 1/12," as if that somehow lightens the blow of .083
