Edgy MD Site Manager Posted June 18, 2013 Posted June 18, 2013 Can't go winless forever and ever, Shaun. If the boys can shut the Braves down, a man like you can.
TransMonk Old-Timey Member Posted June 19, 2013 Posted June 19, 2013 I'm pulling for him, but Marcum seems like quite the letdown after yesterday's hype.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted June 19, 2013 Author Posted June 19, 2013 Maybe, like getting Mike Torrez after Gooden and Darling in 1984 or maybe Bob Shaw after Seaver and Koosman, but sometimes vet guys find themselves too. I'm counting on it, anyhow. The guy turned in one of the most remarkable relief outings in the team's history last week. Somebody's got to fill a hole until other rooks make their marks. Might as well be him.

Bob Shaw was a Met before Seaver (and thus, Koosman) and for a time, was the Mets best starting pitcher.

G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted June 19, 2013 Posted June 19, 2013 When I was a rookie, I was tutored in locker-room protocol by Mike Torrez and Rusty Staub, two generous guys who went out of their way to make me feel comfortable. From Doc's first autobiography, Heat, in which he swore he was clean, a notion he's since refuted upon the publication of his second autobiography. Nothing in there about Dick Tidrow dousing him with ice water.I haven't read Doc yet, so I don't know if he's changed his tune on any of this to "barbecue sauce, what do I look like -- an underage busboy?"
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted June 19, 2013 Author Posted June 19, 2013 I've clearly conflated Bob Shaw with Seaver/Koosman-rookie-era relief filler Don Shaw.

Edgy MD Site Manager Posted June 19, 2013 Author Posted June 19, 2013 Told ye. Nieuwie's now a leftfielder.
smg58 Old-Timey Member Posted June 19, 2013 Posted June 19, 2013 Neither Murphy nor Wright gave Young much chance to steal. I guess that's a re-adjustment that needs to be made.Marcum has a 5.43 ERA and a 3.05 FIP. That's a really large discrepancy. Hopefully that means he's due for some good luck.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted June 19, 2013 Author Posted June 19, 2013 The gray numbers and letters on the blue jersey make some sense in theory, but don't work at all in execution.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted June 19, 2013 Author Posted June 19, 2013 Just had to check the boxscore to make sure Quintanilla wasn't playing second.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted June 19, 2013 Author Posted June 19, 2013 My fault. Had to use the bathroom.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted June 19, 2013 Author Posted June 19, 2013 Wow, getting two runs out of a triple-play grounder.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted June 19, 2013 Posted June 19, 2013 WOW!1) Thank you Mr. Medlen2) How can you be throwing that ball to 3rd?
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted June 19, 2013 Author Posted June 19, 2013 Broken bat ties the game. So, these are those strange creatures they call "the breaks." I've heard tell of them.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted June 19, 2013 Posted June 19, 2013 Nice read by Buckminster. He was a lot more sure that that ball was going to fall in than I was.Either that or he was incredibly lucky.
Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted June 19, 2013 Posted June 19, 2013 Marcum is harshing my buzz. Again.

Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted June 19, 2013 Posted June 19, 2013 That was one ugly, long-assed, and dragged-out 5th inning.
Zvon Old-Timey Member Posted June 19, 2013 Posted June 19, 2013 Here for the comeback. And then I guess they will again give the lead back.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted June 19, 2013 Author Posted June 19, 2013 Duda looking reasonably comfortable at first.
Zvon Old-Timey Member Posted June 19, 2013 Posted June 19, 2013 Torres with a nice 2.1 innings. 4 Ks. Lets keep him.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted June 19, 2013 Author Posted June 19, 2013 Yup. Torres looking generally impressive.Follow his lead.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted June 19, 2013 Author Posted June 19, 2013 Cheapie by Satin knocks out Medlen and brings the tying run to the plate.
