Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted June 8, 2013 Posted June 8, 2013 The offensive incompetence is just stunning.15 base-runners from the 9th thru 18th innings, a bunch of them reaching 2nd with no or one outs, and not one of them scored. You can't even script a run of failure that bad.
Guest LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Guests Posted June 8, 2013 Posted June 8, 2013 When it comes to Ankiel, I've not only gone over to Team GetThisFuckerOutOfTheUniformImmediately, I'm throwing my hat in the ring for team captain.I mean, at least Ike's young and useless.
Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted June 8, 2013 Posted June 8, 2013 I mean, it was only a matter of time before Ankeil became part of the problem and not part of the solution. He swung and missed with some impressive spreads today.

Guest LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Guests Posted June 8, 2013 Posted June 8, 2013 Oh, I don't think subjectivity comes into it. At six hours-plus, with about 15 minutes of eyeworthy play, and a possible injury to our most valuable pitcher/player/commodity, today was absolutely, unequivocally a waste of time.
Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted June 8, 2013 Posted June 8, 2013 Well, I like baseball to accompany me while I eat lunch, run 7 miles, shower, slow-cook chicken on the grill, eat dinner, clean the cat box, play scrabble, etc and I got that all done with this stupid game happening today.
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted June 8, 2013 Posted June 8, 2013 @MetsPrior t tomorrow's game ,the #Mets will recall outfielder Kirk Nieuenhuis from Las Vegas(AAA) and designate outfielder Rick Ankiel.
Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted June 8, 2013 Posted June 8, 2013 Adam Rubin ?@AdamRubinESPN 1mRick Ankiel is out with Mets. Been DFA'd. Kirk coming up.
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted June 8, 2013 Posted June 8, 2013 Wouldn't want to be the hitting coach right about now......
Guest LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Guests Posted June 8, 2013 Posted June 8, 2013 "That's it! I'm DONE! I can't take all this no-chance flailing at no-chance pitches any longer! All this striking out! All this good-by-reputation-but-actually-pretty-underwhelming-outfield defense!Get me... NIEWENHUIS."

Twice! You know it's a sad game when the best player is the one who got tagged with the loss.

Move Ike to Las Vegas to get his shit together and Duda to the bench.)This is a totally visceral reaction, and I'm proud of it.Later
Lefty Specialist Old-Timey Member Posted June 8, 2013 Posted June 8, 2013 Marlins are playing young kids who should probably be in the minors, and are letting them take their lumps at the major league level. And they've been kicking Mets ass while doing it.

This one might never apply.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted June 9, 2013 Posted June 9, 2013 I can't imagine that activating Charlie Puleo and putting him in left field would be at all helpful.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted June 9, 2013 Posted June 9, 2013 Looking at the P-b-P data from yesterday [u:7upjpxsg]just for the potential game-winning ABs[/u:7upjpxsg] --9th inning or later with a runner on 2nd and/or 3rd-- IOW: without even getting into the times where an extra-base hit or, obviously, a HR would win the game, just those where maybe only a single or, in some cases, a good enough out would win the game.9th inning -- K, BB, GO10th -- Foul Out12th -- Fly Out, Fly Out/DP13th -- Foul Out, K14th -- Ground Out15th -- K, K17th -- Fly Out, Pop-Out, K18th -- K, Foul OutSo not only is that 0-15 (plus a walk) w/RiSP ABs [u:7upjpxsg]just in game-winning situations alone[/u:7upjpxsg] (they were 0-19 overall) but only three times did they even manage to get the ball out of the infield (all Fly-Outs) and they were clever enough to turn those three into four outs. The other 12 RiSP ABs produced a stunning TWO ground-outs, FOUR infield pop-outs (three of them foul), and SIX KsWe have a new definition of the word Pathetic
