Molina and Posey will go.
Guest vtmet Guests Posted June 4, 2013 Posted June 4, 2013 winning teams tend to do well in the votings, regardless of each player's results...Giants/Reds/Cards/Braves have most of their players in the top spots...and likewise, basement dwellers don't get representation...
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted June 4, 2013 Posted June 4, 2013 Yes, but historically, there usually is some bump for host teams, right? Not that I'm rooting for that, at least, not on that basis.

Baseball is exciting this summer? cool!" fans not the diehards. The voting is a travesty across the board every year. I've lost all ability to care. I love the game and all that, but MLB makes sure the best players are represented with a pretty good accuracy rate, so whatever.
batmagadanleadoff Old-Timey Member Posted June 4, 2013 Posted June 4, 2013 Perhaps the voting is a proxy for actual fannies in the seats tickets used turnstile count attendance figures.

stevejrogers Old-Timey Member Posted June 4, 2013 Posted June 4, 2013 Kinda ranted about this after a blogger ranted for anarchy by voting for Colin Cowgilhttp://mets360.com/?p=16577First, it is unknown how many people in the general mass audience know about this, but in recent years MLB HAS been trying to resolve popularity contest issues by having the players vote as well. With the winners, or player runner-up getting selected if both votes are the same. It still can be seen as a popularity contest, but at least it is giving the peers a chance to vote as well. It also greatly reduces the chance for a manager to stack the bench and pitching staff (players vote for a good portion of starters and relievers) of his guys.Second, with the amount of various injuries that crop up, and whatnot, the chances of a player that truly deserves to be at the All-Star Game these days of not being selected in one form or another. Nor should it really be that big of a deal with whom starts, which is the reason for this campaign in the first place. Would it have been a nice feather in Wrights cap last year to be the starter? Sure, but it would be far more greater to see David Wright start his first postseason game since Game 7 of the 2006 NLCS!And finally, at the end of the day, its still fan interaction. No matter how obnoxious the voting campaigns online and in the stadium for Lucas Duda or Daniel Murphy might be, it still is part of baseballs effort to get fans involved. So, especially if younger fans are more and more involved in social media, then isnt something for them worth the odd wrong choice here and there. And generally, as in the Sandoval-Wright case, sometimes it is a case of writing a wrong that happened in an earlier case. Not to mention, it is one thing to rail against a flawed system and cause chaos for the sake of causing chaos, but rather than going for anarchy, why not suggest ways for it to be fixed, besides being done away with entirely.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted June 4, 2013 Posted June 4, 2013 It's "writing" a wrong?I fail to see how such a discreditable process is a gift to the fans. It's about advertisers getting their logos in front of fans.

Good point, but I wanted to note that, even with the commercialization, (IIRC, wasn't Gillette the sponsor even back when it returned in 1970?) it still promotes fan interaction.
batmagadanleadoff Old-Timey Member Posted June 4, 2013 Posted June 4, 2013 Kinda ranted about this after a blogger ranted for anarchy by voting for Colin CowgilNor should it really be that big of a deal with whom starts, which is the reason for this campaign in the first place.Whenever I'm not sure, I use the he/him rule to determine whether the proper word is "who" or "whom". Thus, I would pretend that I've answered a question and then form the actual question to my supposed answer -- actually two forms of the same question -- a "he" version and a "him" version. Then I'd determine which of the variations is the proper form:1. Is it a big deal if he starts?and then2. Is it a big deal if him starts? If the "he" version is proper -- then the proper word is "who". If it's "him", then it's "whom".... so "Nor should it really be that big of a deal with who starts, which is the reason for this campaign in the first place".Me -- I could use some occasional help with colons and semi-colons. Sometimes, I don't give a shit and will just throw one of the two down all willy-nilly without any regard for whatever consequences may unfold.

Pretty kool beans. 60 votes for Wright and Murphy, and I was forced to vote for all the other positions and leagues. The price I had to pay
