He can also love. Trust me, I know.

How about we get us an insurance run here? Cool thing about those is they mean you don't have to default to the no-doubles defense in the last two innings.

These are our Mets. Nats will tie it and it'll go 24 innings.

Mr Q with a double. Nice. So many hitters don't properly go the other way anymore. Mr Q does.

After my rant on long games, I'll take it.
Heading for the bottom of the 8th, just shy of two hours right now.
Yanx currently in a game with similar offense (4-0) still in the top of the 6th

I HATE the intentional walk here to a terrible hitter in Bernadina, try to strike him out you idiots!!!

The problem with pitching to Bernardina is, a dribbling ground ball-- or bunt-- from said terrible hitter gets the winning run home.

BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

Bobby, are you gonna be one of those closers that loses the games I want to win the most?

Mets lose-3-2 in the 9th.

I'm with the broadcast team-- the fastball up and away, again? Even a tapped curve likely stays in the infield.

Fart.

the play is at home with the infield in anyway, its just a tag instead of a force and the runner might not even be running automatically on contact (which he is with bases loaded) i'm not scared of getting bunted on there

wt.f. I'm in Arkansas.

I followed this on my phone till the batteries died then since it was a"free" mlb.tv game tuned in to the final half-inning on my laptop. Whoever complains that the Nats announcers are gigantic homer cock-gobblers doesn't do it enough. Holy hell. First we get Ray Knight telling us what "we" need to do to win then the duo on pbp sucked even harder than Parnell tonight. w. tf.

We can nit-pick the strategy all we want, but when the offense doesn't give the staff any margin for error, then the closer comes in and gives up two rocket doubles sandwiched around a single, and then throws in a wild pitch just for good measure (I don't care how they scored that, it was a WP) then it's going to be tough to win.

For the record, I preferred pitching to Bernadina because Lombardozzi is a better contact guy but it's a debatable topic and we were going to have to pitch to him eventually no matter what you did.
As far as Parnell's pitch selection, I prefer that he un-select the ones he threw that wound up smacking against the walls despite the no-doubles defense.

I don't think it is debatable. We needed three out. To get that 1st one Berny was the preferred client in my book.
Terry, you're bummin me out!

It's certainly debatable as the out at home is considerably tougher to get when there's not force. That's the rationale for the IW there.

2:23 was the official time - and I feel cheated by the result not the time.

Hey, the no-margin-for-error mantra is my song.

It was a whole evening of walk-offs in the NL East
- Braves win via walk-off vs Pittsburgh (Simmons doubles off the wall with runners on 1st & 2nd)
- Phils win in walk-off courtesy of an extra-inning John Mayberry Grand Slam (after he tied it in the 9th w/a HR) against Miami

Three walk-off winners, two walk-off losers, and two blown saves (Parnell & Cishek)

No debate that they suck right now. Hittings been sporadic for some time. The Yankee series was a gift I do appreciate. But watching this...
The kind of Met fan I am, this sucks cuz I'm a lifer and I'm gonna have to witness this kinda baseball until they improve. I have turned my back on the team in the past, but with the internet its harder to do cause I can chat w/Met fans. And I got that nifty MLB.TV thang.

So I'm just gonna have to do a pouty face and bear it.
:(

Don't mind me. Im pissed at Parnell. Bobby, ya let me down boy!
And pissed at Terry.
And miffed at Jeff Wilpon cuz I just learned about the Norfolk business.

Which is something, I think.

I think it's reasonable to suggest that this could be a really consistently good pitching team over the next few years and maybe soon. But the outlook on hitting looks murkier right now.

I'd rather have to fix the hitting than the pitching.

It's one of the worst hitting Mets team I've ever witnessed. Wright's all-star caliber season is more than offset and undermined by Ike's reversion to early 2012 form. But this was expected. Or should have been. This is what everyone ought to have known would happen, especially when payroll is cut by about $100M and there's no cavalry coming to the rescue from the Mets farm. Half the lineup is comprised of retreads, scrubs and guys that right now should be playing catch with their kids at home.

They're unwatchable, really. And that's what I've been not doing. Except for Harvey starts. I still marvel at the way you guys can dissect pitchers like Lyon, Burke and Atchinson to the most infinite detail because I still haven't memorized what those pitchers even look like. They're just names. And barely at that.

clearly. Not buying free agents really messed with Davis and his approach at the plate. Jeff Wilpon literally tore out Santana's capsule to sell on the black market and Tejada was so down on the idea of a reduced payroll he decide he didn't really need to hit or field anymore.

That's not what I wrote. Davis has been wretched for two of the last three half seasons and thus, hardly a lock to be the next Carlos Delgado. And Santana's plight has little, if anything, to do with the state of the Mets offense. That the Mets biggest recent pffensive acquisitions are Andrew Brown and Andres Torres says it all. I doubt that the solution is to simply wait for Ruben Tejada to re-discover his 2012 self.

If you expected the Mets offense to be this bad you were being overly pessimistic or just flat out guessing.

What were you thinking? That everything that could possibly go right with the Mets would go right? That each Met would perform to their most optimistic prognostication. That Ike, Duda and Wright would combine for 110 HR's and that Santana would get Cy Young Award votes?
