2 innings pitched:
Miller = 45 pitches
Marcum = 17 pitches

Take your victories where you can find them.

problem is though, these Mets under Sandy's directive are more obsessed with driving up a pitcher's pitch count than they are hitting the freakin' ball...

If they are gonna stick with that plan, they should only use this approach first time through the line up. With Wright and Davis, not at all.

I wanna say something nice about Marcums performance tonight, but I'll wait.

It may be part of the game but it hasn't been effective and it's as boring as when I'd watch my daughters play little league age "Fast pitch" softball and 2/3's of the kids would go up to the plate without ever attempting to swing the bat...I'd tell my kids, "I didn't pay $80 and take vacation time from work to watch you not swing the bat"...and my daughter that pitched knew that she better throw strikes otherwise I would go to the snack bar while she was pitching...

It's nice to see a ballpark with the seats behind the plate filled.

in most stadiums anymore you might as well put a "batter's eye" behind the plate so that the pitcher's don't notice that the good seats are going to waste...

Was that a hit and run? Cuz then I can be pissed only at the new guy, who swung for the fences.

I'm not watching on tv...but...is our offense really that pathetic that we are having a 33 year old catcher with 5 career steals (and over twice as many caught stealing) trying to steal to get into scoring position?

don't know...but Ankiel has 2 swings: "swing for the fences" and "create a breeze as the ball goes into the catcher's mitt"...

I can't believe that was a straight steal.

Then he combined his two swings there.

Very confused what happened there. Firstly, nothing forced that ball free.

Secondly, secondbase was uncovered --- making that the third straight game with an uncovered base.

Momentum. And Wright being concerned about an open second base made him run toward the base, which created the situation where he didn't just stand there and tag the guy. The runner stopped, Dave ran towards 2nd and the runner, the runner started running to third again, and the two forces met (Wrights glove/arm and the runner), ball jarred free.

Is there a reason Murph didn't throw home on the Jay double, or was Holliday a lot closer to home than my eyes said?

5th inning and only 3 hits. And one is by Marcum and another by the new old guy.

Well, I don't know, but the runner was practically arrested. And two handed tags are always a good idea.

These Cards have good fundies. Certainly better than what the Mets are showing.

Bad relay by Baxter, bobbled by Murphy, bad tag by Wright
Other than that they played the whole thing quite nicely.

don't worry about hits & runs, we've got the starting pitcher right where we want him with over 85 pitches in only 5 innings...

Murph didnt get a clean relay from Bax, a short hop milisec bobble. I'm not sure if he changed his mind because of the relay, or if he never was gonna throw home in the 1st place. If he was gonna go home and went to third cuz of the bobble, I gotta commend him. He didn't hesitate and came up throwing for third. I do think he lost any play at home cuz of the relay.

Pitch count or no, it's almost unsporting to bring in a LOOGY for Ike these days.
