seawolf17 Old-Timey Member Posted April 2, 2013 Posted April 2, 2013 http://www.highheatstats.com/player-stats-quiz/Stumbled across this game today, and it's neat. It gives you a random player -- stats, bio/demo info -- but no name, and you have to identify the player.I set the parameters to "all players 1980-present" and it's HARD AS HELL. Resetting it to "batters with at least 1000 PAs 1980-present."
metsmarathon Old-Timey Member Posted April 2, 2013 Posted April 2, 2013 hmm, i didn't see hte option to adjust the minimum plate appearances. i gave up after getting a guy who tossed 42 middle relief innings for milwaukee in one season in the mid nineties.
seawolf17 Old-Timey Member Posted April 2, 2013 Author Posted April 2, 2013 It gives you the option after you select "hitter" or "pitcher."
metsmarathon Old-Timey Member Posted April 2, 2013 Posted April 2, 2013 oh, yeah, there it is. i set it to batters playing during 2005, with 5000+ plate appearances. i still got a few wrong.
Chad ochoseis Old-Timey Member Posted April 2, 2013 Posted April 2, 2013 What makes it really tough to guess position players is that it just lists the positions without regard to frequency. So if a player played two games at 1B and 152 at LF, he's listed as 1B, LF. This drove me nuts when the program gave me Cleon Jones.I suck at it. Selected post-1975 position players with at least 2000 career at bats. I tried fifteen players, and the only ones I got right were Jones, Beltran, and John Wathan. I missed a whole bunch of middle infielders from the early 1980s.
