Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted March 19, 2013 Posted March 19, 2013 When he was in AA, I proclaimed him my favorite Mets minor leaguer. Since then he's been tainted with a bit of a bad reputation, but I'm not sure if it's because he's a bad guy, or if he's a free spirit who just needs to mature a bit. (Hopefully it's the latter.) My guess is that he'll have one or two pretty solid seasons in the big leagues, but won't have the staying power to have a lengthy career. Maybe that solid season (let's say 20 homers and 80 rbi) will come with the Mets, but I don't think it will be in 2013.I do think he'll see more playing time than anyone was thinking he'd get a month or so ago. I'll say 280 at bats, 11 homers, .255. Most of his games will come in the outfield, but he'll appear in the infield about ten times.
Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted March 19, 2013 Posted March 19, 2013 "The poor man's Alfonzo Soriano" as put by The Bard.I still think there's a chance his hot spring, the fluidity of the Met bench and the coming 40-man crunch gets him traded this week but otherwise10-30 267/320/449 in 250 PA
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted March 19, 2013 Posted March 19, 2013 It's good that he's the poor man's Alfonso Soriano, because the rich man's Alfonso Soriano has ripped that rich man off.
Chad ochoseis Old-Timey Member Posted March 19, 2013 Posted March 19, 2013 120 PA. 5 HR, 27 RBI, .273/.317/.410. Traded to a contender before the deadline, becoming the rich man's Joe McEwing. Gets the coveted Nutty Buddy endorsement, with the tagline "I'm still the man now."
Guest LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Guests Posted March 19, 2013 Posted March 19, 2013 Honestly... I have NO f*cking clue.
Vic Sage Old-Timey Member Posted March 19, 2013 Posted March 19, 2013 yeah, he could turn into an all-star CFer or be out of baseball within 3 years. Hi-Risk/Hi-Reward. Worth giving him a shot, since we have nobody better in the OF, and Murphy at 2b hasn't exactly been an iron horse.

Guest LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Guests Posted March 19, 2013 Posted March 19, 2013 I'd bet on "tweeted penis photos" or "sexual harassment, other" first-- if anything, he seems to have an underdeveloped sense of humor/whimsy.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted March 19, 2013 Posted March 19, 2013 Yeah, if he's going to do something individualist, it's going to be something that's already desperately tired/played out/kinda douchey.I'll bet on a controversy on the team flight when he shows up in jeans hanging halfway down his ass.

Ceetar Grand Central Contributor Posted March 19, 2013 Posted March 19, 2013 I'd probably still start him in the minors, if Kirk is ready to go for Opening Day, but I think he makes the team so..I dunno. .270/.322/.430? And that's extremely optimistic. 300 PA. 12 HR, 2 Extremely hair-wrenching errors, 2 instagram photos that spark media-fed drama.
MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted March 19, 2013 Posted March 19, 2013 .278 - 17 - 68 in 145 games, playing wherever Terry needs him. Hey, if they finally convinced him to wear a cup, anything's possible. Later
Guest Mets Guy in Michigan Guests Posted March 20, 2013 Posted March 20, 2013 The guy hit five pinch-hit homers last year. If he keeps that up, he can let the fungus grow on his shower shoes and the press will think he's colorful. I like him. He's got a chance here. I think he stick because it's not like we have anyone much better: .280, 23 homers 75 rbi.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted March 22, 2013 Posted March 22, 2013 The good news this spring for Valdespin: 50 PAs: 17 for 47 with 5 XBHs (he tripled to lead off tonight's game) and just two Ks The bad news: 1 walk plus 2 CS in 3 attempts
batmagadanleadoff Old-Timey Member Posted March 6, 2014 Posted March 6, 2014 I predict he takes a heater right in the cock. And it'll serve him right for not wearing a protective cup.
