How's this work, again?

Tell me a distinguishing fact about Mickey Weston, and then name another player you might wish to read a distinguishing fact about.

As befits a guy whose pitching style was less "throw it by 'em" and more "chuck and duck," he's now a professional man of faith; he's a minister with Unlimited Potential, Inc. serves as a volunteer chaplain for the sorta-nearby White Sox, and has homeschooled his four kids.

Tell me something about Mauro Gozzo.

Maurice "Goose" Goozo was part of the package sent to Toronto for David Cone. Today Goose run Goose's Gamers AAU team and Academy.

How about Skip Lockwood...

Converted shortstop.

The last MLB game of his career occurred on my 39th birthday. Gave up 5 runs in the 9th inning to the Angels.

How about ... Joe Orsulak?

Mike is a member of the Northeastern University Athletics Hall of Fame

Tell me something about Bruce Boisclair, s'il vous plait.

According to baseball-reference, only four current or former major league players have ever had the first or middle name of Armand. Bruce Armand Boisclair.

an internet site claims that you can send fan mail to Boisclair:

Bruce Boisclair
5423 Spanish Oak Ln
Unit D
Oak Park, CA 91377-3728

Tell me something about Joe Grzenda.

First-ballot inductees into the Hall of Armand:

  • Bruce Armand Boisclair (Mets, 1974, 1976-1979)
  • Armand Joseph ("Ben") Cardoni (Braves, 1943-1945)
  • Joseph Albert Armand ("Skippy") Roberge (Braves, 1941-1942, 1946)
  • Edmund Armand ("Ed") Wingo (Athletics, 1920)

Joe Grzenda had a 1.000 lifetime fielding percentage.

I want to know more about Jack DiLauro.

Posted

Jack DiLauro was (perhaps the first such guy in history) actually intimidated about coming to the Mets because they had too much talent, having pitched against the then-new crop of Mets pitchers in the minors. He was nonetheless championed and mentored by Whitey Herzog and still today has the third-best ERA in team history among pitchers with at least 50 innings pitched. Score one for the White Rat.

How about Francisco Estrada?

Mickey Weston is responsible for some of my best baseball memories!

A tremendously nice guy who was very patient while a starry eyed cub reporter tried to tell his story over the years.

Had a career batting average of .500 and yet remains unmentioned in annual Hall of Fame voting (he went 1 for 2). Has been managing in Mexico for 30 years now.

Tell me something about Mike Torrez.

Jim Gosger was the third player to appear in games as a NY Met in three separate seasons without ever getting his own Mets Topps baseball card.

Rick Herrscher?

Posted

Rick Herrscher played his one and only season with the 1962 Mets.

He became an orthodontist in 1972 and has been fixing smiles for 30 years..

Became a pro golfer post-retirement, playing in a handful of PGA events in the early '80s and joining the Senior Tour in '86.

Help me get in touch with Jorge Toca.

Posted

Jorge Toca is remembered for frequently losing his grip on his bat. He last played in the Mexican league..However, Jorge proved to be abit ahead of his time in being suspended on 5/12/2005 15 games for violating Minor League drug policy. Well done Jorge.

Watson, after his brief Mets career, played in Japan for Bobby Valentine.

Amado Samuel, I know nothing about. Tell me a thing.

First Dominican shortstop in the majors, and the first player to make it there from thenceforth-hotbed San Pedro de Macoris.

Give me something about Kelvin Torve.
