I think the Nats have reached the upper deck in CitiField more often in this series alone than the Mets have since the place opened.

Calling our bullpen is like spotting the other team two runs.

It's simply a matter of whose turn it is to suck that day.

On the other hand, when you're getting four-hit, whatever goes on pitching-wise is unlikely to matter much today.

Now Nats bull-penners, specifically Henry Rodriguez, are going to make sure that Byrdak's barf does matter in the outcome.
Two lead-off walks would be a lot scarier if this were still a two-run game.

Valdy, he's the man now.

My faith in our hitting into GiDPs just when they're the most killer is surpassed only by my lack of faith in our ability to turn one when it most matters.

Well, that's A run, I guess.

And you'd think that with the bases loaded with walks, Valdy might try to get one, too.

Side retired.

Once again there are runners on and the middle of the lineup up with two shots at it.
And do we get the ball out of the infield? -- No we do not.

It's pretty brutal to see three months of better-than-expected play be wiped out in under two weeks.

The wheels have definitely come off.

Bases loaded with no outs, top of the order and the best we can do is a run on a fielder's choice to the pitcher. That's horrible.

Hey, that RBI shot went at least 65 feet!
Or at least it did once the roll was included.

Well, we committed 24 errors. Their pitcher threw a no-hitter. But there is some good news. Two of our runners almost managed to get to first base... and we did hit 17 foul balls.

The LaRoche homer is turning into a brouhaha. SNY replayed Thole getting the pitch (fastball outside) from the dugout, then Byrdak shaking it off twice before conceding, and throwing a fastball right down the middle. As LaRoche was circling the bases Byrdak was giving Thole the old hairy eyeball. The Hulkster seemed to apologize to Thole in the dugout, but was getting into it with Warthen at length.

Apparently all this is what's got Collins ire up. Rubin has it pretty well covered on Twitter.

the season in microcosm: estimable starting pitching undermined by dire defense and combustible bullpen, unsupported by punchless bats.
