Guest metsguyinmichigan Guests Posted July 24, 2012 Posted July 24, 2012 (edited) OK, I'm bringing some Midwestern Magic to Wednesday afternoon's game. Now, some might think that our somewhat unimpressive rookie would not stand a chance against Mr. No. 1 Pick. Not so, I say! We don't want to put all that pressure on Young Matt Harvey's Thursday debut, so I say today the team goes out there and takes care of business.Oh, sure. Lucas is getting sized for his Herd batting practice jersey, and Johan's on the shelf and Gee's on the shelf and Frank-squared is, well, we didn't like him any way.I say today is the day Jason Bay gets his act together and gets a single (!) and does not crash into the wall.Anyway, like the Bambino at Wrigley, I'm calling the shot. Mets win 6-4. (With all four Nats runs coming in the ninth inning. I'm not promising anything pretty.) Edited July 24, 2012 by Guest
Fman99 Old-Timey Member Posted July 25, 2012 Posted July 25, 2012 Jordany goes deep twice today. Book it.
ashie62 Old-Timey Member Posted July 25, 2012 Posted July 25, 2012 Travis Hafner is pitching? Who did we trade.

bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted July 25, 2012 Posted July 25, 2012 I apologize if there is an existing thread for trade deadline news about our team because I don't see it.According to Harper:Major League sources say his name has been already out there in trade discussions. One source says the Mets have already rejected an offer from the Padres of reliever Luke Gregerson for Murphy.http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/baseball/mets/ny-mets-gm-sandy-alderson-trading-daniel-murphy-bullpen-article-1.1121343#ixzz21dqMllke

bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted July 25, 2012 Posted July 25, 2012 MFS62: it's nice to see someone with some attitude on this team. Ike is so friendly to the players when they reach 1B that I expect him to offer them a drink.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted July 25, 2012 Posted July 25, 2012 Two different definitions of nice there.I don't think the Mets problem is that they're too nice, or that Valdespin's success is linked to a lack of kindness or a surfeit of hostility or attitude.

MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted July 25, 2012 Posted July 25, 2012 Another opinion of Valdespin:http://sports.yahoo.com/news/jordany-valdespin-snaps-york-mets-record-pinch-hit-160000557--mlb.htmlLater
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted July 25, 2012 Posted July 25, 2012 Morse homers and one more day in which our team doesn't get the early lead.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted July 25, 2012 Posted July 25, 2012 And Espinosa ends a 10-pitch at-bat with a homer of his own.Hefner's beard is losing.
bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted July 25, 2012 Posted July 25, 2012 Hefner is the Mike Nickeas of starting pitchers.

MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted July 25, 2012 Posted July 25, 2012 Whoever mentioned Morse's neanderthal looks a few days ago was correct. He looks not too far from "man walks upright" on the evolutionary scale.A monster, and not a bad hitter.Later
Guest Swan Swan H Guests Posted July 25, 2012 Posted July 25, 2012 Ikeaboom! Murphy follows up with a solid single, but Nooey goes 4-6-3. 2-1 Gnats.
Guest Swan Swan H Guests Posted July 25, 2012 Posted July 25, 2012 Murph boots an easy DP, but Hefner gets out of it with good pitching (pop-up Zimmerman and K LaRoche) and a bit of good fortune and head's up play. Lombardozzi had third on a PB, but he overslid the bag and Wright hung with the tag and got him.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted July 25, 2012 Posted July 25, 2012 An Ike Davis homer followed by a David Murphy single really underscores that Murphy is hitting in the wrong part of the lineup.
Vic Sage Old-Timey Member Posted July 25, 2012 Posted July 25, 2012 Murph and Valdy should be flipped in the order
Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted July 25, 2012 Posted July 25, 2012 Valdy misplays a popfly to a single, runner later scores when Thole can't handle throw home. Wright whiffs on a passed ball but doesn't even attempt to take first base.No fundies.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted July 25, 2012 Posted July 25, 2012 Vic Sage wrote:Murph and Valdy should be flipped in the orderSeems too obvious, don't it.
Guest Swan Swan H Guests Posted July 25, 2012 Posted July 25, 2012 Tejada's with an Ordonez-like slide to his right to take a hit away from Morse, with an backhand pick from Ike at the other end. Meanwhile, Hefner just buzzed Bernadina - a fastball behind his head. He did the old 'look at the mound where my foot slipped' bit, but I'd love to think there was a message there.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted July 25, 2012 Posted July 25, 2012 I wouldn't mind sending a message - although buzzing one behind a guys head isn't the way you want to see it.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted July 25, 2012 Posted July 25, 2012 The problem is not that our pitchers aren't mean and threatening enough. It's 3-1 in the seventh. That's where we were two nights ago.
bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted July 25, 2012 Posted July 25, 2012 Doesn't Byrdak want to get traded? That's not going to help.
