batmagadanleadoff Old-Timey Member Posted July 7, 2012 Posted July 7, 2012 Mets skipper Terry Collins: We need Jason Bay's bat in the lineupJason Bay and his .184 batting average will return to the Mets lineup as soon as possible, which may be right after the All-Star break."When he comes back, we will insert him in the lineup," Terry Collins said. "We need his bat in the lineup. We hope when he gets back he's ready to play."Collins is expecting Bay to start playing games in Port St. Lucie on Sunday, after participating in drills for a couple of days. The plan is for Bay to then move to Triple-A Buffalo "for a few games and then come back (to the Mets)," Collins said.http://www.nydailynews.com/blogs/metsSarcastic comments are welcome.

Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted July 8, 2012 Posted July 8, 2012 If Bay's return keeps Nieuwenhuis off the field against LHPs [.167/.275/.217], sits Duda every once in a while vs the same [.217/.270/.311], and reduces Terry's once-a-week or so temptation to put Turner on 1B, then maybe it's not such a bad thing.
bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted July 8, 2012 Posted July 8, 2012 Nieuwenhuis needs to go back to AAA to play everyday and try to cut down on his Adam Dunn-like strikeout numbers. Bay's return sets this up and could possibly help the team against LHP.

Bay's return sets this up and could possibly help the team against LHP.Bay had a 900+ OPS against lefties last year. I think the concussion and multiple injuries are the perfect reason to slide him into something closer approximating a platoon role. of course.. I know we love what Hairston has done, but Terry has been using him too much against righties too. Bay's probably/maybe/could be better than that, although maybe you give Torres a couple of those starts.TejadaTurnerWrightHairstonDavisBayTorresTholeDickeyis probably pretty good against lefties. alternating in Murphy and Duda (and probably Nickeas) into that sometime.

Edgy MD Site Manager Posted July 16, 2012 Posted July 16, 2012 Ashie's the J. Jonah Jameson of the forum. "Clean out your office, you're FIRED! Wait, a minute... where do you think you're going?! Did I say fired? I didn't mean fired fired! The things people will do to get out of working around here."
Guest LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Guests Posted July 16, 2012 Posted July 16, 2012 That's not fair. J. Jonah Jameson had a thinly-veiled, ill-conceived agenda that he rarely gave a rest, and... um... Ashie's from Jersey.

Theoldmole Old-Timey Member Posted July 17, 2012 Posted July 17, 2012 You have to hope they get to the lefty early.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted July 17, 2012 Posted July 17, 2012 Bay still hasn't been officially activated, far as I can see.

Ceetar Grand Central Contributor Posted July 17, 2012 Posted July 17, 2012 And he's spotted with a bat! Twitter goes wild!
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted July 27, 2012 Posted July 27, 2012 Somebody posted something to the UMDB today that matches something that I've noticed myself. Doesn't Jason Bay look thin (at least in his face) since his return? He looks almost frail. Or maybe like he's aged a decade or two. I don't know. Anyone else notice this?
ashie62 Old-Timey Member Posted July 27, 2012 Posted July 27, 2012 I thought the same about Ike a couple of months ago.

Edgy MD Site Manager Posted July 30, 2012 Posted July 30, 2012 Part of the frailty of Bay may simply be that he was ordered to avoid heavy workouts during his convalescence, and he has some catching up to do. Although there may not be enough time left in his career for him to catch up.

The Mets are doing their due diligence. They're going to get play him regularly and give him a reasonable shot to actually hit he ball across a meaningful* sample. But he might not make it back to New York.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted July 30, 2012 Posted July 30, 2012 I didn't suggest any excuses. It was noted that he looked thinner, and I theorized why he might.
