Also, see how many of his Pirate teammates were on the gas. Ceetar wrote:He had good years right before getting to the Mets. Like I've said before, you can retain the benefits of steroids for 1-2 years after you stopped using them. However, everything catches up to you with a vengeance , especially if you're sidelined with the type of injury Bay had. Funny how the Red Sox didn't want to touch him with a ten-foot pole. Ceetar Grand Central Contributor Posted April 8, 2012 Author Posted April 8, 2012 In terms of the Mets, I'm glad we don't have Matt Holliday right now given where the team has gone. It'd be a worse drain on the Mets. What's wrong with his numbers? they look pretty standard minor-major numbers, his Rookie of the Year numbers weren't even his best couple of years, and except for the drop off in 2007, he'd been very steady.Until 2010 when he got to the Mets/Citi Field/they changed the maximum bat diameter rules. And I don't think that last one should be ignored either.I doubt he was taking and then stopped taking. You can use that same argument to infer that Jeter and Mariano were/are using (mid-late 90s Yankees when they came in? yeah) or pretty much everyone that played the game in the last 20 years.

batmagadanleadoff Old-Timey Member Posted April 17, 2012 Posted April 17, 2012 In celebration of the Mets 50th anniversary, this year's ticket faces feature a player/executive/announcer from the team's historic past. Each game ticket features a different Met person for the most part; Gil Hodges and Casey Stengel are repeated. Tom Seaver appeared on the game #1 ticket face. Gary Carter appears on the game #8 ticket face. Some other Mets appearing on this year's tickets that weren't, as far as I'm concerned, automatic or obvious choices choices, are Todd Zeile, Turk Wendell, Benny Agbayani, and Billy Wagner.Jose Reyes, last year's batting champ, was excluded.
batmagadanleadoff Old-Timey Member Posted April 17, 2012 Posted April 17, 2012 There's a George Theodore ticket (Game #11) -- good choice -- , but no Marv Throneberry ticket (an unfortunate omission). This time, the Mets dropped the ball on ol' Marvelous.

Chad ochoseis Old-Timey Member Posted April 17, 2012 Posted April 17, 2012 I'm good with not including Reyes, Beltran, or any other currently active ex-Met. Do we really want to honor players who are playing against us this year?Glavine got a ticket, also. This isn't true. This is just batmags taking the piss.Right?RIGHT???
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted April 17, 2012 Posted April 17, 2012 Did they do one for M. Donald Grant?

But there's Glavine's mug on the game #44 ticket. If the Mets were cool kats, they might've farmed out the ticket production to Topps.

And Case and Gil appear once each. This blogger's got a list of the tickets, (scroll about halfway down the page) along with some snarky, and often odd comments.

This blogger's got a list of the tickets, (scroll about halfway down the page) along with some snarky, and often odd comments.I think that the most glaring Mets omission on their 50th ann. ticket faces, among inactive or retired players, is the almost always unloved Armando Benitez. I wonder if Armando's exclusion is a sign that McDowell's gonna be selected as the Mets all-time RH reliever on the Mets 50th ann. all-time team? If I had a vote, I'da wanted Delgado, and the Hendus - Steve and Rickey on a ticket face. Eddie Murray, Bernard Gilkey, Endy and Skip Lockwood too, among others. I wouldn'ta put Teufel or Zeile or Hampton or Shamsky or Wendell or Glavine or Lance Johnson over the last guys on my list.
HahnSolo Old-Timey Member Posted April 18, 2012 Posted April 18, 2012 Trachsel, Hampton, Glavine, and Wagner are my WTFs. Teufel as well, but I guess they threw him a bone for his time in organization and on coaching staff.Batmags is right. Where the hell is Delgado? I mean, three of the guys I listed were '06 Mets...Does Carlos not merit being right there, if not before those guys, then alongside them?
Guest Mets Willets Point Guests Posted April 18, 2012 Posted April 18, 2012 I know a place where one could find the 81 greatest Mets of all time. Or would be able to if the current list were up to date and posted.
batmagadanleadoff Old-Timey Member Posted April 18, 2012 Posted April 18, 2012 I wonder if the younger Mets fan know just how magical Steve Hendu's rookie season was? It seems to me that over the years, Hendu's Met legacy has been condensed to his walkoff against SanFran and being one of the rejects gotten in the Seaver trade.

batmagadanleadoff Old-Timey Member Posted May 7, 2012 Posted May 7, 2012 The San Francisco 49ers officially announced plans to create a physical home for the Edward J. DeBartolo, Sr. 49ers Hall of Fame with approximately 15,000 square feet of space earmarked at the new Santa Clara stadium. The 49ers former public relations director, Jerry Walker, has returned to the club as Team Archivist and will spend the next two years acquiring artifacts over the history of the franchise. According to the 49ers, the team is looking for donations and loans of nearly anything vintage such as game and practice apparel, fan clothing, printed materials like posters, programs, and magazines, collectibles, memorabilia, souvenirs, photos and videos, and really anything that might be attractive for the Hall of Fame.Walker also announced that the team's extravagant vision for their Hall of Fame will unfortunately delay the finish of the Jackie Robinson Wing. 49ers fans can expect the Robinson Wing to be completed in time for the opening of the 49ers second season in the new stadium. If you are interested in potentially donating or loaning anything to the 49ers Hall of Fame, you can email Jerry Walker at Jerry.Walker@49ers.com. If you do donate anything, let me know and we'll get some pictures up.http://www.ninersnation.com/2012/5/7/3006081/49ers-hall-of-fame-looking-for-historical-artifacts15,000 square feet? I'm jealous. Mets fan have a HOF tiny enough that 15,000 of them could probably be squeezed into the Jackie Robinson Rotunda.
