Reyes to get dreads cut on MLB Network Friday

By Matt Snyder

Bye bye, dreads.

When star shortstop Jose Reyes signed a lucrative contract to play with the Miami Marlins for the next six years, he knew he would have to leave more than his Mets career behind. Per Marlins policy, Reyes' hair is too long and he'll have to hack off the dreads. In and of itself, that's pretty boring news -- you can look at the picture above to get a decent idea of how he'll look, even though that picture was taken back in 2003.

But this is news because Reyes is making an event of cutting his hair.

Its official: Jose Reyes will cut off his trademark long hair Friday on the MLB Network. More details to follow, tweeted Reyes' agent, Chris Leible Tuesday night (via Fish Tank blog).

So, if this sort of thing interests you, watch Reyes' haircut on MLB Network Friday. I can't say I'll be tuning in for that, but hey, to each his own.

I had understood that Reyes' agent was Peter Greenberg. I think this Leible character is the agent for Jos's hair.

I'm sure most who've reached the All-Star level do --- at least so far as their agents keeping a publicity agency and/or image consultant on retainer.

I agree. I suspect he's been hanging out with LeBron James.

Well, his hair was never the reason I missed him to begin with. *sigh*

But then, I don't have a problem with LeBron James either.

Leible used to be an employee of the Mets. I know this because when I first started mbtn and wrote to them for help he was the one who wrote back.

Next time I saw his name he was Fonzie's agent, orchestrating that NY Times "Thanks New York" ad when he left town.

Now he looks to be preparing for a career as a douche.

But the real question is: Will the MLB Network televise Daniel Herrea getting his hair cut off?

Not until he leaves the Mets.

Auctioning a dream date with Daniel Herrera would be the real cash cow.

If he doesn't cut his locks and he sticks for a while, the Mets of late 2011 to whenever will be known to have played in the Daniel Hair Era.

Of course. How else do you justify extremely solipsistic TV programming featuring the vainglorious wealthy.

It's for the kids.

Why not just invite Jim Grey to host and call it The Scission?

I gotta say, I hate what it represents for the town, and I hate the fanbase that'll get treated to it... but that Marlins stadium has kinda won me over. It's like the baseball Bellagio with a sense of humor.

I think the real shocker here is that S.I. opted for a baseball cover.
Don't they usually do one in April and then another in October and figure they've hit their quota?
