smg58 Old-Timey Member Posted October 4, 2011 Posted October 4, 2011 The Yankees needed to bunt more that inning.
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted October 4, 2011 Posted October 4, 2011 Sports medicine practice advertising during the Tigers radio broadcast uses the opening for the Four Tops "I'll Be There" as background music. Then the station uses the opening to the Stooges' "Lust for Life" as the lead-in back to the broadcast.Big Michigan-area loyalty among the music programmers.
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted October 4, 2011 Posted October 4, 2011 Getting to the pen with 10 outs to go is OK. Either they come up short or burn some dudes that could be pitching tomorrow. And Granderson makes a run-saving catch. Boo.

Gwreck Old-Timey Member Posted October 4, 2011 Author Posted October 4, 2011 This one is going to game 5.

Guest LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Guests Posted October 4, 2011 Posted October 4, 2011 Luddawmighty, Granderson's good in center.
MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted October 4, 2011 Posted October 4, 2011 I listened to the middle part of the game while driving home and didn't see either of the catches mentioned in this thread. How good were they? Good? Very Good? Or Agee/ Swoboda good?Later
Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted October 4, 2011 Posted October 4, 2011 Both were very good.First may have been aided in overall goodness by a poor first-step decision but still was outstanding athletic play anyhow on a ball that was crushed. Catch 2 was your standard issue horizontal layout, I was losing interest in the game at this point and as far as I'm concerned it actually never happened.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted October 4, 2011 Posted October 4, 2011 Yes, very good catches emphasized by the fact that they were at very critical points - especially that first one.
HahnSolo Old-Timey Member Posted October 5, 2011 Posted October 5, 2011 Why the hell, after a leadoff walk in the first, are the Tigers bunting? With Burnett on the mound, no less.
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted October 5, 2011 Posted October 5, 2011 I think the book says you play for the loss at home.I don't know. You got an offense like the Yankees, I'd think it's obvious that you play for multiple runs, particularly in the first.Managers are crazy.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted October 6, 2011 Posted October 6, 2011 GAME FIVE - John New (Ivan Nova) vs Doug FisterInning One: Tigers (Kelly & Young) go long on back to back pitches in top 1 ... Yanx go in order in the bottom half2-0
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted October 6, 2011 Posted October 6, 2011 Number of hits by Yanqui batters through two innings = OneNumber of ball/strike calls Yanqui batters have agreed with = less than that
Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted October 6, 2011 Posted October 6, 2011 Whoa, Joe yanked Nova already, Hughes in to start the 3rd.I'm gonna have to take John & Suzyn outside for a long run.
Fman99 Old-Timey Member Posted October 6, 2011 Posted October 6, 2011 So here's to you, Mister Fister. A nation turns its lonely eyes to you...

Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted October 6, 2011 Posted October 6, 2011 Two things I'm hoping for here in this top of the fifth:1. Tigers put the game out of reach2. Sabathia's arm falls off
Fman99 Old-Timey Member Posted October 6, 2011 Posted October 6, 2011 Would love to see Motown open it up here against Fudgie the Whale.

Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted October 6, 2011 Posted October 6, 2011 Sabathia gives up a run. Love it.
Fman99 Old-Timey Member Posted October 6, 2011 Posted October 6, 2011 After loading them up in the fourth and getting a run Fister gets the first two guys in the 5th on two pitches.I am erect with hope.
HahnSolo Old-Timey Member Posted October 6, 2011 Posted October 6, 2011 This pitch tracker thing is awful. The graphic shows a different location from where the pitch actually went.Oh, yea, go Tiggers!
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted October 6, 2011 Posted October 6, 2011 A solo shot from Cano that he may well still be admiring, then Rodriguez hacks at the first pitch.3-1 Tigers
