batmagadanleadoff Old-Timey Member Posted August 2, 2011 Posted August 2, 2011 Anybody here know who the shortest Met was? I'm asking, not trivia'ing.
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted August 2, 2011 Posted August 2, 2011 It's always a hard call, because the shorter you are, the less likely they're going to report your height honestly. Some days, I'm pretty sure it's Terry Collins. He and Backman are both listed at 5'9". It's hard to find shorter guys than that. Look for catchers.I'm sure Ben Grimm can answer this in about nine seconds.

batmagadanleadoff Old-Timey Member Posted August 2, 2011 Author Posted August 2, 2011 Searching is too cumbersome because, as far as I know, it can only be done one player at a time. I just thought of Sergio Ferrer a few seconds before I wrote this post and according to the UMDB, Ferrer's is(was) 5' 7". I don't know if Ferrer's the shortest but I'da been surprised to learn that in the 50 year history of the Mets, no Met was under 5' 9".
Met Hunter Old-Timey Member Posted August 2, 2011 Posted August 2, 2011 Two shorties that come to mind are John Cangelosi and Ricky Otero.
HahnSolo Old-Timey Member Posted August 2, 2011 Posted August 2, 2011 Cangelosi is a good one. Listed at 5'8", I would surmise he was at most 5'6".
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted August 2, 2011 Posted August 2, 2011 Otero listed at 5'7" and Cangelosi at 5'8".
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted August 2, 2011 Posted August 2, 2011 Mets Walkoffs has Otero at 5'5".http://www.metswalkoffs.com/2005_11_20_archive.html

MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted August 2, 2011 Posted August 2, 2011 I saw the Binghamton team play when they had Otero, Vina and Veras on the team. It also had Butch Huskey. He looked as tall as the other three combined. Later
batmagadanleadoff Old-Timey Member Posted September 3, 2011 Author Posted September 3, 2011 Daniel Herrera, at 5'6", is the shortest Met ever. So sez Gary Cohen.
