Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted August 1, 2011 Posted August 1, 2011 Craig Counsell - the soon to be 41 y/o reserve IFer for Milwaukee - went to the plate 34 times in July- he had a sac bunt- he had a sac fly- he got hit by a pitch once- and made an out the other 31 timesThat's right, no hits for the entire month in a streak which also includes his final 13 ABs in June for a streak that's now reached 0-for-44He started and played complete games 8 times during that run, including the last two games (no doubt brought on by the injury to Rickie Weeks), the remaining ABs came via PH and late-game sub situations.

Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted August 1, 2011 Posted August 1, 2011 He did the little gritty things, though.

Gwreck Old-Timey Member Posted August 1, 2011 Posted August 1, 2011 Hmmmmm. Interesting counter-example. Counsell at least had value (2.8 WAR) as recent as 2009. You'd have to add together Cora's 2004, 2005, 2007 and 2008 seasons just to get that much value (and don't ask about the other years not mentioned).
TransMonk Old-Timey Member Posted August 1, 2011 Posted August 1, 2011 He can play any infield position, he's a lefty, he's got a ring (which doesn't mean too much ten years later, but I'll bet he's used to mentor some younger players) and he's a local boy.Still, I'm surprised every season when he shows back up on the roster.
Willets Point Old-Timey Member Posted August 1, 2011 Posted August 1, 2011 I always conflate him with Jeff Conine who is suitably retired.
Theoldmole Old-Timey Member Posted August 1, 2011 Posted August 1, 2011 And he has that weird batting stance.
