Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted July 20, 2011 Posted July 20, 2011 They paid more to Moises Alou. But that... didn't work out.Such guys should certainly be more attractive to AL clubs. On the other hand, Alou could have unleashed holy thunder from the DH position, but ended up on the Mets.
Ceetar Grand Central Contributor Posted July 20, 2011 Posted July 20, 2011 What if Carlos Beltran is the difference between the Phillies making it out of the first round, and not? What if the financial benefits of the Phillies going to the WS again are what allows them the financial boon to next year acquire Beltran, or the righty-power bat they covet that makes the Mets 2012 that much more difficult? Is that worth trading him to the Phillies in exchange for a guy that so far looks like Lucas Duda in as many AB in the majors?
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted July 20, 2011 Posted July 20, 2011 I don't know if he's a jerk or what (Florida-born --- you can't be too careful), but Domonic Brown could sweeten in any deal. Number four prospect according to Baseball 'Merica, and ready to leave the minors behind.

I will feel bad because I like the guy as a Met. But he must be traded. For as much as we can get. Brown is a top-level prospect.
Guest LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Guests Posted July 20, 2011 Posted July 20, 2011 Something like Mike Minor would work, too. If either of those offers come across Alderson's desk, I'd imagine he'd pull the trigger so fast, he'd sprain a ligament. There appears to be MLBTR buzz that the Bravos are looking for something in a Ludwick or Willingham... or, perhaps, a Pence (if you're Wren, and you've got the choice of Beltran, or someone comparable and team-controllable, you'd rather give up something big for the latter than for the former).
A Boy Named Seo Old-Timey Member Posted July 20, 2011 Posted July 20, 2011 Minor would a be a haul, a Major one. Would be awesome if Sandy could extract either that guy or Brown. Like that he doesn't give a crap about trading within the division, either.
ashie62 Old-Timey Member Posted July 20, 2011 Posted July 20, 2011 Beltran is going to Philly for Dominic Brown..I want to believe it and do!
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted July 21, 2011 Posted July 21, 2011 From the Wall Street Journal:That the Mets will trade Beltran, though, before the July 31 non-waiver deadline seems a foregone conclusion. Even Beltran acknowledges as much. "Right now, the only way they can get something in return is if they trade me," he said. But any Beltran trade could end up being a net gain for the Mets, because Beltran suggested Tuesday night that he would be open to re-signing with them this offseason. "I'm going to let everything play the way it plays out, and if it plays out for me to return here, I have no problem," he said. "I know New York. I know how everything is here. I have produced here. I don't see it as a big deal."When asked Wednesday if the Mets would be open to signing Beltran again, general manager Sandy Alderson said in an e-mail: "Short answer: Yes, it is something we could consider." ashie62 Old-Timey Member Posted July 21, 2011 Posted July 21, 2011 In a world where cash has no meaning Beltran stays and the Mets push for the wildcard.I mean, its only money for chrissakes.
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted July 21, 2011 Posted July 21, 2011 Cash doesn't have to have no meaning for Beltran to stay. The Mets just have to win enough by the trade deadline to force the issue.

Then I want him to suck for Philadelphia. Batting average under .120, dropping balls in RF all over the place. I want him to play so bad that he gets benched mid-September. I want him to come back to CitiField and fraternize with the Mets to such an extent that the Philly papers call him out on this, and the Phillies front office has to tell him to cool it. I want him to be questioned by the NY media about his poor play and I want him to answer with a knowing smile that prompts an investigation as to whether he is tanking on purpose. I want the Phillies to file a grievance.I want him to "accidentally" back his car into Shane Victorino's ridiculously pimped out BMW while backing out of the Citizen's Bank Ballpark parking lot causing him over $15k in damage, most of it relating to Shane's custom-made hood ornament.I want to hear that the investigation and grievance were ultimately abandoned for lack of evidence.I want the Phillies to lose in the playoffs when Beltran loses track of the number of outs and throws a ball into the stands, allowing 3 runs to score.I want him re-signed to an incentive laden deal three hours after players are allowed to file for free agency. At his press conference, I want him to talk about how excited he is to be back with the Mets, especially in light of the extension Reyes signed during the ten day exclusive window.I want to read reports that Boras, Beltran and Alderson are in a corner snickering with each other, then suddenly shush each other when Ruben Amaro Jr. walks by. In October 2012, I want Beltran to talk about how the World Series MVP crown means nothing to him, he's just happy that the Mets are champions. This is what I want for Carlos Beltran.I need a towel now.

metirish Old-Timey Member Posted July 28, 2011 Posted July 28, 2011 Apparently there was a deal with the Pirates but Beltran refused to go, read that late last night from one of the baseball writers.
