G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted July 3, 2011 Author Posted July 3, 2011 I hummed "O Canada" for the entirety of Jason Bay's 9th-inning at-bat, followed it with every patriotic hymn or at least American-themed song I could think of for every Mets hitter who followed and then came back with an encore in the tenth.Another great Canadian song:[youtube:15fgwkod]NCIUf8eYPqA[/youtube:15fgwkod]

Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted July 3, 2011 Posted July 3, 2011 I was thinking when Terry sent Paulino in for Thole that that's a move Manual wouldn't have been so quick to make. Even though it's a classic lefty/righty swap that Jerry loved*, he would have tended to keep his reserve catcher in for the 19th inning which probably wouldn't have come on account of him being too wimpy to use his reserve catcher even in a last-ditch effort to tie the game. In summary, while it's hard to call it a great move, it's certainly not one we've gotten used to seeing around here.Liked that he left KRod in for a 2nd inning also. Again, with the pitcher leading off that kind of move should be a no-brainer, but of course Jerry never would have had him in in the first place on account of the Mets being behind and/or tied.* on edit - actually it wasn't even a classic R/L switch because it was against Mariano. It's well known that he's even tougher on LHBs but I suspect that would have been too much for Jerry to contemplate.
Gwreck Old-Timey Member Posted July 3, 2011 Posted July 3, 2011 In fairness to Jerry, I think even he got the concept that in a tie game at home, the closer comes in to pitch in the 9th inning.
Fman99 Old-Timey Member Posted July 3, 2011 Posted July 3, 2011 Wow, missed the whole exciting finish. We were driving north for a cookout and listening on XM, when we got there the good guys were down 2-1 in the 8th. I didn't even bother to check my phone to see what happened.Yay for us.
ashie62 Old-Timey Member Posted July 3, 2011 Posted July 3, 2011 I was heading back up north also and missed the finish...What a win.Saw the replay of Duda rumbling home-Priceless!
