batmagadanleadoff Old-Timey Member Posted March 15, 2012 Author Posted March 15, 2012 How bad might the Mets pitching staff be this season? Topps ain't sayin', but Dickey and Johan are the only Mets starters to get their own 2012 Heritage cards.* *And Schwinden. Rookie card craze and all.
Methead Old-Timey Member Posted May 12, 2012 Posted May 12, 2012 Apparently Dmitri Young amassed a very valuable collection of baseball cards during his playing days, and now he's selling all of them to start a foundation. Some pretty amazing cards in there, although I'm not sure how a few hundred cards ends up costing you $5 million. Ceetar Grand Central Contributor Posted May 12, 2012 Posted May 12, 2012 Keith was talking last night about a baseball card he had of Mickey Mantle that had the the trajectory of his home run that nearly left Yankee Stadium.

Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted May 13, 2012 Posted May 13, 2012 Isn't that the one he hit in Washington? The one which almost certainly did not go 565 feet.

seawolf17 Old-Timey Member Posted June 18, 2012 Posted June 18, 2012 Topps sure has some sense of humor with their collation. Grabbed one pack of 2012 Topps Archives at lunch:http://twitpic.com/9xy7ob(The other five: Andrew McCutchen, Carl Crawford, Jay Bruce, Ken Singleton, and Jarrod Parker.)

seawolf17 Old-Timey Member Posted October 3, 2012 Posted October 3, 2012 Nice of Topps, btw, to include Greenberg in the set for next year.
seawolf17 Old-Timey Member Posted January 17, 2013 Posted January 17, 2013 2013 Topps checklist is out (cards should hit in the next week or two), and... dammit, Topps. Jason Bay? Really? Fuckin' hell.21 Lucas Duda - Mets 43 R.A. Dickey - Mets 60 Jon Rauch - Mets 81 Kershaw - Cueto - R.A. Dickey89 Johan Santana - Mets 109 Kirk Nieuwenhuis - Mets 129 Ike Davis - Mets 139 Bobby Parnell - Mets 144 Jason Bay - Mets 156 Dillon Gee - Mets 250 Jonathon Niese - Mets 271 Jeurys Familia - Mets 300 Daniel Murphy - Mets 312 Scott Hairston - Mets 1972-style minis among the inserts this year, but Dickey is the only Met listed on the checklist for Series 1.
Ceetar Grand Central Contributor Posted January 17, 2013 Posted January 17, 2013 Is the numbers intentional to match the uniform?
seawolf17 Old-Timey Member Posted January 17, 2013 Posted January 17, 2013 Topps does a lot of that, yes. Cap'n Intangibles is card 2, Trout is 27, Felix is 34. Full list: http://sportscardradio.com/index.php/product-previews-a-reviews/1387-2013-topps-series-1-baseball-checklist

seawolf17 Old-Timey Member Posted January 17, 2013 Posted January 17, 2013 They did it several years ago (2006ish). He actually still has cards in the set, #7. Don't know why there's no card listed there this year.

seawolf17 Old-Timey Member Posted January 26, 2013 Posted January 26, 2013 So true. The 2013s should be out this week some time. Target/Walmart early in the week, then at your local hobby shop by Friday.

Guest Mets Guy in Michigan Guests Posted January 30, 2013 Posted January 30, 2013 I love the 1972 design -- but I like the Schaefer versions produced by our acclaimed 'Pooler because he knows that action photos in the 1972 set were reserved for "in action" cards!
seawolf17 Old-Timey Member Posted January 31, 2013 Posted January 31, 2013 I hate our local hobby shop. I think they're a bunch of d-bags. But they're literally the only game in town, so I don't have much by way of choice. That said, I have remarkable luck there. I've bought only three packs there in the past year or so, and yet I've pulled three autographed cards: a Madison Bumgarner out of 2012 Topps S2, an Addison Russell (A's draft pick) out of 2012 Bowman Draft, and then yesterday, Dodgers infielder Dee Gordon out of 2013 Topps S1. Go figure.
ashie62 Old-Timey Member Posted January 31, 2013 Posted January 31, 2013 At least your hobby store doesn't "feel up the packs."
