On another note: is it mean to shake my head and chuckle at a little kid in an A-Rod replica tee if he/she doesn't see me do it? I feel like I've done that a lot this winter.

Shouldn't you be calling Child Protective Services instead?

Oh, I can't take credit for coining it. (It's an Amazin' Avenue thing, mostly.)

Atlanta's just closed out a tight pitcher's duel, 2-0, with scoreless innings by flameboys Venters and Kimbrel.

The Milwaukee Gallardos are throwing it on The Cincinnati Bakers after 5 1/2, 5-2.

If the season ended today... that would be really premature.

Opposite-field three-run homer by Ramon Hernandez pulls it out for the Reds vs. the Brewers.

Somewhere Braden Looper cringes.

Milwuakee's John Axford blows a 3 run lead in the bottom of the ninth and Cincy wins on a walk-off three-run homer by Ramon Hernandez.

Exciting stuff!

WOW!!
Axford was one of those on-the-cheap closers who had a good year (or at least a partial) last season.
Not that this game changes all that but it remains to be seen whether he can repeat or be seen as a flash in the pan.

And somewhere 'Original JB' is muttering "Axford" to himself.

I remember Axford looking intimidating when I first saw him last year but I also recall Ruben Tejada (!) getting him for a game-winning walk-off RBI double at the end of last season.

Apparently the Hernandez HR was set up by a bizarre play by Casey McGehee, who cleanly fielded a grounder with first and second and none out, then tried to make a tag-and-throw double play but failed on both ends.

Pujols = oh-fer-five w/3 GiDPs in a 10-inning Cardinal loss

Clearly the pressure of the new contract is getting to him and stuff like this is proof he'll never be able to handle NYC so I don't even want him anymore if he becomes a FA this winter.

Kershaw (7 IP, 9 K, 4 H, 0 R) beats Lincecum (7 IP, 5 K, 5 H, 1 R, 0 ER) as defending champs play Little League defense.

I played second in Little League and once came up empty on a tag-throw double-play attempt. I bitched that the ump blew both calls but I was pissed at myself. "Make sure you get the sure out," my Dad reminded me. Grrr... "I'm not really interested in ever looking that stupid again, Dad. I'll probably be remembering that play when I'm 44."

Birds choked that one away when Cameron Maybin hit a game-tying homer with 2 outs in the 9th off Franklin. They won in the 11th after the Cardinals made two bad throws on the same play.

Hafta say, Albert looked like he was walking down the line on one of the DPs I saw on the hilites.

His "Jeweled" Hat and Power Crystal Collection, coming later this spring on his eBay shop?

Now that's Hall-of-Fame-worthy.

I was gonna say ... y'know how they say dogs start to look like their owners after a while? Well maybe it's true that, given enough time, old ballplayers also start to look like their ex-owners. He looks like Marge's long-lost younger sister there.
