I CANNOT BELIEVE YOU WOULD DISRESPECT THE NEW YORK SPORTIMES LIKE THIS! YOU CANNOT BE SERIOUS!

The Red Bulls play their home games in Harrison, NJ (motto: "Congratulations! You're no longer in Newark!!!), so they're no more New York than the Jets or Giants.

Are they counting the Jets and Giants, but somehow not the Nets and Devils? There's some logic there, as the Nets and Devils don't use "New York" in their team names.

Are they going all New York State and counting the Islanders and the Buffalo Bills?

Are they just talking out of their butts?

I'm going with "butts" here.

And, yeah, what Edgy said about those other professional teams.

I imagine in this buzzy and linky world, topical humor can be demonstrated to trump funny humor. This morning, thousands and thousands of folks are talking about Manhattan Mini Storage.

Give me actual funniness, but, well, three million freaks are subscribing to Charlie Sheen's tweets.

yeah, that's their thing. (I don't follow them, i just mentioned the company in my tweet and they noticed)

I like their ads, they're sorta funny. different at least. controversial for sure. usually more political "People are openly gay and secretly republican, why leave?" or "storing at your parents means having to visit"

C'mon. It is funny. At least a little bit.
Stuff like this just makes the champagne taste sweeter when we get our next WS Championship.

Jesus Christ, G, you sound just like Willie.

Truth: I had actually forgotten about that Willie quote. But there is something to the concept of telling everyone to 'shove it' when success (eventally? finally?) comes your way.

Oh, it doesn't bother me now.

But I'm preparing to be one vengeful, vengeful bad winner. (Toward discrete segments of the population, of course.)

since i am that much of a geek, i decided to look.

the new jersey devils and new jersey nets currently play closer to the city limits (5.99 miles) than the ny red bulls (6.25 miles), not that they really count as a major sports team. the islanders are closer still (5.83) while the jets and giants are the closest not really new york team (4.5 miles).

i think the angular shape of the izod center must have been part of some stealth feature, hiding it's new jersey based residents from the big bad city despite their cozy 4.25 mile separation.

Wait, I thought the Nets & Devils played in the Meadowlands next to the Giants & Jets. Is there really 1.5 miles of parking lot between the two buildings?

The Coliseum is only 5.83 miles from the Queens border? Seems further.

The Easternmost point in NYC is at the intersection of Union Turnpike and Langdale Street in Glen Oaks, Queens. From there, it's 6.1 miles (as the crow files) but over 10 miles by the fastest driving route.

Weird, because the PATH stop for Harrison comes before the PATH stop for Newark if you're traveling from NYC.

Perhaps what the company in question meant is the Mets aren't a "professional" sports team in the sense that they have been revealed to be a non-profit operation.
