If Misches were wishes ... NYM@HOU IGT 8/19/10

The Mets have the easiest remaining schedule in all of baseball, according to this:

Remaining schedule (today through season's end)

Best schedule: New York Mets. Sure, they're only 11-19 since the All-Star break. Sure, they're now 8 games out of a playoff spot (the wild card), putting their chances of a postseason appearance at slim to none. And sure, they just lost Francisco Rodriguez for the season, meaning there's a patchwork bullpen back there desperately trying, often failing, to preserve leads. But that doesn't mean owners of Mets starters should be leaping off ledges, especially not with the knowledge that their remaining schedule is strong. The Mets play more home (23) than road (20) games the rest of the way, and face teams that rank in the bottom half of the National League in runs 26 times in 43 contests (or more than 60 percent of the time). Heck, the toughest matchups they have remaining are six against the rival Philadelphia Phillies, a team that has a .657 OPS against the Mets this year, and four against the Milwaukee Brewers, all of them at Citi Field. Johan Santana, R.A. Dickey and Jonathon Niese might yet stave off disaster.

Stfu, espn. We're playing .600 without that jerkoff, both losses were the starters', and the Rodriguezless bullpen has thrown 11 1/3 scoreless innings.

That's just so lazy by espn or the writer, whatever, it would take less than one minute to check the numbers that bucket gave us.

So yeah, STFU espn.

I'd forgotten Misch was on the team.

Expect a Oliver Perez sighting this weekend, if not today. All signs are leaning towards it.

1. He hasn't pitched in ages.
2. reports that he's "looking better" (I don't know how this can be when he hasn't actually faced batters)
3. The Mets have already not lost this series, and 2 road wins a trip is normal. Could be thinking it's house money at this point?
4. Bullpen tired from yesterday.
5. B.S. about missing-Frankie need to get more value from everyone else.

I love knishes, because they're delicious.

PREDICTION: Ollie pitches today, and hits 103km/h... at least.

Didn't we once have a poll about whether we preferred the round knishes or the square ones?
If not, we should have.
But, I'd prefer that Misch pitches a great game today.
The thought of seeing Ollie killed my appetite for either kind of knish.

Later

So most nights, the Mets bench is 2 catchers, and only Thole can play another position (1B); Hessman, a slow power hitter who plays 1B and 3B; Carter, a slow power hitter (hopefully) who plays 1B, LF, RF (and none of them well); and Castillo, a 2B only. No back-up SS, no one with speed to pinch-run, and no back-up CF.

while i don't agree with the 3 catchers I agree with every other bench spot.
We've got 2 guys playing regularly in the OF who play CF and two guys playing regularly in the IF who play SS. We don't need a back up at either - the backup is on the field.

Pinch Running ? It ain't worth carrying Feliciano/Martinez to Pinch Run it's not like they're Dave Roberts.

Well, the backup SS is playing 2B (or not depending on the night) and the backup CF is playing one of the corners - so we're not really short in either spot.
Besides, any shortfalls that do exist get "solved" in two weeks when rosters expand.

I'm happy that Hessman is still around but they could use a guy who can lead off the bottom of the 9th, down 1 (like that ever happens), and someone that can PR for Hessman, Carter, or one of the catchers. They also could use a backup MI rather than a guy that can barely play 2d--in other words, I'd rather see Turner up than Castillo... but you're right, as soon as Buffalo (red hot at the moment) is done, this issue is solved (I'm guessing that for position players, Turner, Evans, J. Feliciano, F. Martinez and maybe Santos--on the DL now--get called up).

Blanco's made a few cameos at first, third and in the outfield in his career. Not Super Joe, exactly, but emergency capability, one presumes.

Wow. The Keith announcing train going off the track already.

Attention Keith: things that nobody wants to hear about:
1. Your first-class travel schedule
2. How late your chartered flight will arrive to your prearranged airport transportation
3. How much money you can spend at the Houston Galleria.

It's the top of the SECOND INNING for chrissakes. Shut up and call the game please. Thanks.

Fuckshit! 2-0 to 3-2 with the swing of a bat :(

Whup, that woke me up.

Carlos Lee : Met killer.

I was just gonna post that Misch was pitching a hell of a game that was so boring I was fallin asleep and that I hoped would stay boring through nine.

Was Thole obviously safe there?
I had two eyes on Futurama and no eyes on the game.
But I glanced over and saw a replay that smelled of bad call.

Reyes singles and takes 2nd on a pb.

So... Igarashi's throwing well.

Not, like, 105 well, but well.
