Now this is like watching your ex flirt with your next-to-worst neighbor. Sigh.

I remember reading somewhere that Loria and he are buddies... although, given each's reported work style, I'm not so sure that such collegiality would extend to a business relationship.

Nice park sketch, though. Can you digitally erase the people, so we can get a feel for what it'll be like f'real?

I wouldn't take the Marlins inability to draw non-enemy crowds as a perpetual given.

They were fifth out of 14 NL teams in 1997, but 15th out of 16 in 2003.

But they beat the Yankees, so they certainly drew a lot of angels.

The Genius will thrive in Miami. He'll be managing a team largely devoid of strong personalities (though, I predict Hanley Ramrez as the first contender for fist-cuffs in the dugout), local media that won't encroach on his sensitive nature, a GM who appears to prefer appeasement to confrontation, and he'll enjoy a similar relationship with Loria as he did with Jeffy at the Mets.

I too would have liked to have seen him go to the O's because I really believe he could have turned their sorry arses around.

And he's thrived in black and orange before.

Or maybe... he's a PLANT! He secretly still works for us, and is going to help us go 19-0 against Florida every year! Thanks, Bobby! Now all we need is Davey to take over for Bobby Cox, and for the ghost of Gil Hodges to replace Charlie Manuel.

Art Howe, welcome to the Bronx.

I could've rooted for him if he'd wound up in Oriole colors.

Ecch.

I imagine Mets fans are no more pessemistic on average than the other baseball fans. We're just the ones that ironically take "Ya Gotta Believe!" as a rallying cry.

Ah, yes... but I'd imagine that a Mets fan that hasn't been disengaged over the last few years might have a bit more of the abused-puppy mentality in them-- at least at the moment-- than fans of most other teams do.

Nah - it's a rational hatred.

Why do I have this feeling that the Mets will turn into a pumpkin and start sucking again soon after Bobby V. is off the market?

I'm not this extreme, but you know this team is going to go through another rough patch, and I'll be lamenting Bobby then.

Good for Bobby. Bad for us in that I think he'll make the Marlins a better team. I'm indifferent to the Marlins overall though.

Doesn't do anything for ya?

HA! SUCK IT, MARLINS!

Psst! Jerry. Come here for a second.

I want you BUNTING like a fuckin' madman this weekend. Show these American Leaguers what National League Brand Base Ball is all about. Bunt, bunt, bunt. Throw a double switch in there. Hell, a TRIPLE switch. And when the dust is settled and we've lost four in a row, clinging to life in third place... THEN we will bring Bobby home where he belongs, with Benny Agbayani as our hitting coach and Cook and Wendell coaching in the bullpen.

You probably shouldn't have said that last part out loud.

Has a team ever had co-managers?
I say we wait til Bobbys signed, trade Beltran for him,
and then roll with 2 managers.
Two heads are most certainly better than one.

And if one gets thrown out the other is still in the game.
They could argue between innings about bunting in the up coming half, and stuff.
They could doubly misuse the bullpen, and other stuff.
I think when you do that the GsOBs heads explode, and things slip into another dimension.

I saw that in the Walternate universe the Mets not only won the 2000 and 2006 World Series,
they were division winners in 2007, 2008, and have a 4 game lead at this point in 2010.

The Nats lead in the wild card. Strasburg K'd 19 in his debut.
If we meet em in the post season JFK will be throwing out the first pitch.

Oh, and Shea was never torn down.
Just taken proper care of all along and rebuilt like Ruths house was.
Yea, we played in the Bronx for the 2009 season.

Uh, where was I....?

Oh yea, managers....

...and the Skanks never fired Torre and there was another subway series in...

In 1961, the Cubbies had four co-managers, taking over the team, by plan, for a few weeks at a time. Looking it up, it was: Vedie Himsl (10-21), Harry Craft (7-9), El Tappe (42-54) and Lou Klein (5-6).

Marlins hold off on Bobby Valentine interview, AP told
FREE PRESS NEWS SERVICES

MIAMI -- A person familiar with the Florida Marlins' managerial search says a formal interview with Bobby Valentine has been put on hold although he remains a top candidate for the job.

The person spoke on condition of anonymity to the Associated Press because the Marlins had not authorized any public comment.

"Yes, I know it's a puzzling move considering the timing, but honestly, we didn't think we'd be any good and that there would be lots more opportunities to fire Jerry. That being said, he's still doing a shitty job and we just couldn't let Bobby go to Florida, so there you have it. Jerry out, Bobby will be in uniform tonight. I'll take questions now..."

I'm a few days behind CPF posts... this was genius, CF.
